A Message from Keir and Emma

“We would like to acknowledge the Wurundjeri Woi Wurrung people, the first people to dream, create, wonder, dance, play and learn on this breathtaking land. This land was cared for and respected for tens of thousands of years. The First Nations people lived in companionship with the animals and the life on this land. We acknowledge that this is stolen land and we pay our respects to elders, past, present and emerging.”

Student Led Conferences
What a great buzz there was at the school on Thursday for our Student-led Conferences. It was wonderful to have these conferences all on-site, as this gave students the opportunity to authentically share their learning with their parents and carers; sometimes showing the process of learning, and sometimes celebrating the products of a learning journey. If you were unable to attend the conferences this term, we encourage you to reach out to your child’s classroom teacher.
Celebrating Classroom ESS
Last week, while the rest of the school community was engaging with Student-led conferences, our classroom ES staff took part in some professional learning. At BNWPS, we have many amazing classroom ES (education support) staff. Some have been here for more than ten years, and some have just joined us in the previous twelve months, but all are dedicated to supporting our students to authentically engage with their learning, their peers, themselves and their environment. The Classroom ES team at BNWPS is a truly integral part of our school, and we really could not do many of the daily or wonderful things that we do if we did not have them on board. We wonder if your family or your child have been supported in some way by our ES staff; in the classroom, on camp, in learning or in play? Maybe we could spend this week celebrating the work that our amazing classroom ES do every single day. ‘Thank You’ just doesn’t seem to be enough!
Autumn Family Afternoon
This coming Friday (9th May) is our Autumn Family afternoon. On this day, we invite family and community members into the classrooms and learning spaces to take part in some of our engaging learning experiences. Classrooms will be open from 2.45pm until 3.30pm. There is no need to sign in at the front office, as each classroom will have a sign in sheet available. We encourage families with more than one child to visit each child’s learning environment. The afternoon will finish with a very special Plant and Produce market. We will not be having an assembly on this day.
Dogs On Site
We would like to remind any parents/carers who may enter the school yard with a dog, that the dog must be on a lead. We are a welcoming and dog loving community here at BNWPS, but we do have a few members of our community who are anxious or feel unsafe around dogs. If you do choose to bring your dog on-site, please make sure that it is on a lead at all times, and we expect that any dog on-site is comfortable and relaxed around large, noisy groups of people. If this does not describe your dog, the school yard might not be the best place for them to be.
Are you a keen sewer?
Last year, the school purchased some comfy seats for our office. Unfortunately the seats are upholstered in white - not the best colour for chairs that have lots and lots of people sitting in them each day; some of them muddy or sandy or wet! We are looking for a keen sewer to make some new covers for these chairs - in a colour that is a little more hard wearing! If you are interested in helping us out, please email Keir (keir.jasper@education.vic.gov.au)
