Foundation

Over the past two weeks, the Foundation students have been developing their fundamental movement skills through the Perceptual Motor Program (PMP). The activities have helped enhance their balance, coordination, and spatial awareness in a fun and supportive environment. Students will continue this focus throughout Term 2, with assistance from different year 6 leaders. Allowing opportunities for one-on-one support on each activity.

Year 1

Students have been rotating through station activities focusing on key skills in basketball and soccer. Through targeted drills, students have been building their ball control, passing, dribbling and shooting techniques while working collaboratively with their peers.

Year 2

Students have been participating in sports activities designed to promote spatial awareness. A highlight was our adapted basketball team game, where students had an opportunity to score 2 points as per a normal basketball shot, or they could choose to shoot for a lower target using a hula hoop over the ring for 1 point, making it easier and more enjoyable for everyone to score.

Year 3

Students have been engaged in modified basketball activities, focusing on developing their dribbling, passing, and teamwork skills. We have started off with relay races, focusing on shooting and dribbling. If students can’t successfully shoot a shot they will get 3 turns before moving on.

Year 4

Students have been learning and playing Newcombe Volleyball, with a particular focus on improving their serving skills. Students have shown great enthusiasm and progress as they practiced accurate and strategic serves during matches. Newcombe Volleyball allows opportunities for students to practise Volleyball skills whilst being able to catch the ball.

Year 5

Students have been immersed in Tee Ball, continuing on from term 1. With a strong focus on game play and match situations. Students have been developing their batting, fielding, and teamwork skills, putting them into action during spirited matches. I have loved seeing the fast development of our year 5 students when catching and fielding using a glove.

Year 6

Students have enjoyed playing modified soccer games, including 'corner soccer', a strategic version involving four teams where the goal was to finish with the lowest score. This game encouraged students to think tactically while building their teamwork and communication skills. Soccer will be our focus over the next few lessons with our unit focus being offensive and defensive strategies. Corner soccer allows opportunities for all students at different skill levels to showcase defensive strategies by protecting their goal whilst allowing the other 3 teams to attack the ball.

School Sport

Upcoming Sporting Events: Rugby League and Winter Gala Days

We have an exciting few weeks ahead for school sports, with two major events on the calendar!

On Wednesday 28th May, selected students will represent our school at the Rugby League Gala Day. This will be a fantastic opportunity for students to showcase their skills, teamwork, and sportsmanship in a fun and competitive environment. We are looking forward to seeing our teams give their best effort on the field and represent our school with pride.

Following that, on Friday 6th June, students will participate in the Winter Gala Day, competing in AFL, Netball, and Soccer. This day will allow students to experience a range of winter sports while building their game sense, teamwork, and resilience. It promises to be a great day full of energy, skill development, and plenty of fun.

We wish all of our students the best of luck and know they will make our school community proud. Thank you to our staff and parent volunteers who are helping to support these wonderful opportunities!
