LITERACY

This term we will continue to use an evidence-based approach to our Literacy learning. Our Literacy Block will continue to consist of reinforcing the core literacy skills which include, fluency, phonological awareness, heart words (irregular spelling patterns), handwriting and the Sounds Write Phonics Program.  

We have started reading a book called ‘Fantastic Mr Fox’ By Roald Dahl. Students will continue to expand their vocabulary and will be discussing different themes within the text. This book will be linked with our Unit of Work on Animals and Habitats. 

Students will also explore Non-Fiction texts, discussing the structure and text features and summarising non-fiction texts. It would be wonderful if you could encourage your child to explore non-fiction texts by topic interest and discuss facts learnt after reading.

Please continue to read daily with your child and ensure they return their reading bag on a daily basis.  

Sunshine Library is a fantastic resource that has wonderful programs and books to explore, as a way to foster a love of reading with your child.
