As part of Wellbeing Week, our PBL lesson was on using our inner coach. This lesson came at the perfect time, with many classes currently completing assessments. Students explored how to recognise theirinner criticand learnt strategies to turn those negative thoughts into a positive inner coach. Here are some of the students' ideas and reflections on how they can be their own inner coach

Last term we gave out 67500 Dots! On average this is 162 dots per student. Students are able to spend their dots at the Dot Café or on our end of term Dot Day celebration.

This term Dot Day is on Wednesday the 25th of June. We have a variety of activities that students can pick from. Check out the Dot Day poster to see what’s on offer.  Photos from the afternoon will be in the next newsletter!

Attendance

It is important that all students attend school every day of the school year, and remain in routine attendance. If your child is unable to attend school for any reason including illness, transferring to another school, family holiday, etc. it is essential parents, guardians or caregivers  notify the school. You can notify the school by calling 46777333 or QParents.

Respectful Relationships Education

This week in RRE, year 4 students were learning about challenging gender stereotypes. Students were given a story where a gender stereotype is confirmed and had to rewrite the story to challenge it!

Here are some examples:

The Soccer Team

At school, a new soccer team was being formed. When Mrs Jones asked who wanted to join, almost every boy put up his hand. Emma raised her hand too, but some boys laughed.

"You can't play soccer," said Liam. "That's a boys' sport!"

Emma felt embarrassed and slowly put her hand down. Mrs Jones didn't say anything and only took the names of the boys who volunteered.

But we like this version better!

The Soccer Team

At school, a new soccer team was being formed. When Mrs Jones asked who wanted to join, almost every boy put up his hand. Emma raised her hand too, but some boys laughed.

Liam excitedly said, "That's awesome Emma! I can't wait to play soccer with you." The boys who laughed went very quiet and apologised to Emma for laughing.

Mrs Jones said "Thank you, Liam! What amazing words of encouragement. Anyone can play soccer, not just boys."

More girls wanted to join in and they raised their hands. Mrs Jones thought it was a wonderful idea and wrote down the names of all the boys and girls who volunteered.

The Dot Day Activity

Students were choosing activities to participate in for Dot Day. One activity was making and decorating cupcakes. Ethan loved baking and wanted to participate and make some cupcakes for his family. When he told his friends, they laughed.

"Baking? That's for girls," said Jake. "You should do something cool like bike-riding or cricket."

Ethan felt silly and changed his activity to something he didn't really care about.

"Baking is for everyone," said Jake. "You should do something cool like decorate them with bright icing and sprinkles."

Ethan felt amazing and excited about his Dot Day activity.

Book Week Dress Up

It was the day of the Book Week Dress up parade. Zoe was excited because she had dressed up as a firefighter from her favourite book. But when she arrived at school, some other girls looked at her costume and whispered.

"Why are you dressed as a boy?" one girl asked. "Firefighters are men."

Zoe looked down at her boots and suddenly wasn't so sure about her costume anymore.

Book Week Dress Up

It was the day of the Book Week Dress up parade. Zoe was excited because she had dressed up as a firefighter from her favourite book. When she arrived at school, some other girls in her class said, "Oh that's so cool! How did you make that costume? You look really good!" and they smiled at her.

"What inspired you to dress up like that?" One girl asked.

"My aunty and my uncle are both firefighters," said another girl.

Zoe looked down at her boots and felt proud.

News from Chappy Sonia

In week 5 of this term, we celebrated "Chappy Week" and to show our appreciation for our Chappy Sonia we held a free dress day on the Friday with the theme being "C" or "S" for Chappy Sonia. We had a lot of students who came to school dressed up in fabulous outfits- See the photos below.

Chappy Sonia has also been organising activities to promote Kindness.  One activity is the Kindness Tree. The tree started with no leaves, the students were then encouraged to pick a leaf and write the name of a person who has performed an act of kindness or been kind to them. The leaves were stuck onto the tree for all the students and staff to admire.

LATELY AT GREAT MATES....

May was Messy Play Month! We had so much fun getting as messy as we could at Great Mates. We had sticky cloud dough, we washed dirty animals and trucks. We searched for fossils and dinosaur bones as well as played in edible dino lands and watched volcanoes. We painted and glued and stamped. Not forgetting the silly spaghetti play and floating

'Tea-riffic" water play. Great Mates also took part in the National Simultaneous Storytime and read "The Truck Cat" together.

This month is all about music and we hope to see all of our favourite little learners there to make music with!

PLAYGROUP WILL START BACK IN TERM 3 ON THE 23/07/2025 (WEDNESDAY WEEK 2)
