Maths Meets Minecraft in the Year 3/4 Open Day!
The Year 3/4 classrooms were buzzing with creativity and excitement during this week’s Open Day, as students took part in a unique maths activity: designing Minecraft-inspired characters and calculating their area and perimeter.
As part of their ongoing numeracy unit, students used graph paper to create pixel-style Minecraft characters. Each block represented one unit, allowing them to practice measuring area and perimeter in a fun, visual way.
Parents and carers were warmly welcomed into the classrooms to observe their children in action. It was a wonderful opportunity for families to engage with their child's learning journey, ask questions, and see firsthand how mathematics can be both practical and enjoyable.
The session highlighted the importance of connecting learning to real-world interests and making education an interactive experience. Judging by the proud smiles and enthusiastic conversations, the event was a big success for both students and visitors alike.
