Almost halfway through Term 2! It's been a brisk couple of weeks and we've had our fair share of sick days in the middle school. But we are on the up and up! Check out what's been happening at OPS.
Reading: In our reading sessions we have been reading the Aussie classic Paper Planes by Steve Worland. We dived into literary devices identifying them, using them and unpacking why an author would embed them in their stories. We also of course have been making a few paper planes along the way.
Writing: In writing, students have been working on procedure texts. Students had the chance to build something in the Minecraft video game. Then they were asked to write instructions on how to make their fantastic builds. Shortly after that students also made a brand new board games and wrote a procedure text on how to play their awesome games.
Maths: We have been working hard on the complex topic of fractions. Recognising fractions and finding equivalent fractions. Students also have been learning to add and subtract fractions with the same denominator. Finally we have been learning how to find fractions on a number-line.
Humanities: Students have started learning about natural disasters, from earthquakes to volcanoes. Answering questions such as; How they form? Why they happen? What are the effects?
