Year 12 Information Evening
On Tuesday 10 February we conducted an online information session for Year 12 parents/carers on a range of topics.
Thank you to Mr Cam Heyes, Ms Brittany Harvey, Ms Victoria Stewart, Mr Patrick Mooney, Ms Carla Caminiti, Ms Claudia Tymms, Ms Michaeli Lyon, and alumni Alyssa Lancaster for their efforts presenting and sharing with parents.
Alumni Program
Frankston High School has a proud record of educating young people. Our school’s alumni community is huge, full of interesting people doing interesting things. Alumni can be inspirational, relatable role models for current students. They can provide career guidance for students, work experience placements or establish scholarships and other types of philanthropic support for students. Universities and private schools are skilled at building their alumni communities, but there hasn’t been a tradition in state schools of harnessing the potential of their alumni communities.
Ourschool is a not-for profit service helping public high schools build a thriving alumni network to help current students and the school community. Our Alumni Program Coordinator, Ms Jane Figas, is working here two days a week to find and reconnect with alumni. We have established a contact list of alumni and their expertise, along with working with teachers to invite alumni back to school to enrich the school’s classroom subject, offer career pathways enrichment and drive work experience opportunities.
Semper Squad and Lunchtime Activities
Frankston High School is an exemplary school because staff enthusiastically support our students participating in extra-curricular activities which further strengthens their connection to school. Our Semper Squad and Lunchtime Activities have commenced this year overseen by Ms Carly Macdonald and Mr Ryan Jones (Semper), and Ms Jess Knights (Lunchtime Activities).
SLC Camp
Our SLC Camp ran from Wednesday 25 February to Friday 27 February last week in Phillip Island. It was a great opportunity for our student leaders to form strong bonds and develop their ideas further supported by those staff attending. We have a great team of student leaders who are keen to continue to improve our wonderful school. Thank you to Mr Jon Christie for his efforts making this camp so great and to all staff who attended.
Staff Professional Learning Day
On Friday 13 February, staff participated in professional learning (Domain 3 – Stamina and Engagement) run by facilitators Sharyn D’Souza and Tasmin Murray from Berry Street. The Berry Street Education Model (BSEM) is an educator-designed and evidence-led course that will support our school community to learn more about proven strategies that can be easily implemented in the classroom and throughout the school. This training aims to empower and equip staff to help all students succeed through increasing engagement of students with complex, unmet learning needs to successfully improve all students’ self-regulation, relationships, wellbeing, growth and academic achievement, aligning with our schools pillars of excellence, community and aspiration.
