NAPLAN Update

That’s it for another year! Our Year 3 and Year 5 students have now finished their 2026 NAPLAN assessments, and we are incredibly proud of the way they approached each task.

We have successfully completed our NAPLAN testing, with 390 tests submitted across our Year 3 and Year 5 cohorts. This reflects the excellent participation and commitment shown by our students throughout the assessment period.

Across this week’s Conventions of Language and Numeracy tests, students demonstrated strong focus, perseverance, and a positive mindset. It has been fantastic to see them tackle each assessment with confidence and resilience, reflecting the learning habits we continue to build at Whittlesea Primary School.

We would also like to thank our teachers for their hard work in preparing and encouraging students throughout the NAPLAN period. Their support has been instrumental in helping students feel confident and capable.

We also appreciate the role that our families play in helping students feel settled and ready each day. Your encouragement at home makes a meaningful difference in supporting your child’s approach to learning and assessment.

NAPLAN results will be available later in the year, with reports provided to families once they are released to schools. These results offer a snapshot of your child’s learning and will be used alongside ongoing classroom assessments to support future learning.

Inquiry

This week, our staff participated in professional learning focused on Inquiry-based learning, strengthening our approach to designing engaging and meaningful learning experiences for students.

Within the Victorian Curriculum Version 2.0, Inquiry supports students to build knowledge, skills, and understanding through questioning, investigating, and making connections. It is embedded across areas such as Geography, History, Science, Technologies, Civics and Citizenship, and Economics and Business, allowing students to explore real-world issues and develop deeper conceptual understanding.

As part of this work, staff explored how structured, high-quality learning sequences can support teachers in planning efficiently while still allowing flexibility to tailor learning to their students' needs. Staff worked together to review and create a sequence of lessons, as well as resources that provide clear progression, engaging content, and rich prompts that encourage students to think deeply, ask questions, and make meaningful connections.

Importantly, this professional learning also provided teams with an opportunity to plan a range of engaging learning experiences throughout the year, including incursions, excursions, projects, and learning expos, ensuring students can apply their learning in authentic and purposeful ways.

We look forward to implementing these new learnings and ideas with students in the classroom.
