Engagement

Who's Who at MCHF - By Gabriella Massoud

Environmental Club Initiative

The Environmental Club proudly launched its very first initiative in celebration of Clean Up Australia Day, which will take place on Sunday, 1st March.

Students in Stage 4 took part in a fun and purposeful Return and Earn competition, working in teams to collect rubbish and recyclable bottles and cans from around the school. Each group returned their collected items, earning rewards along the way, with bags of lollies up for grabs! The energy was high, the competition was friendly, and most importantly, our school grounds were left cleaner and greener.

A huge congratulations to our overall champions, the Year 8 team “The Winners”, Ryan H, Charbel S, Charbel G.S., and Evana M, who collected the highest number of returns. Not only did they top their stage, but they also secured the grand overall prize!

We are incredibly proud of all students who participated and demonstrated teamwork, environmental responsibility and school spirit. This is just the beginning for our Environmental Club, and we look forward to many more initiatives that make a positive impact on our community.

UTS start-up summit

On March 4th, a group of Year 10 MCHF students attended the UTS Entrepreneurship Start-Up event at the ICC Sydney Theatre, where they participated in workshops and lectures led by entrepreneurs and business owners. This is what our students had to say about this experience: Throughout the day, we explored the key values behind starting and sustaining a successful business, learning that failure is often an important part of the journey. We were also introduced to how technologies like AI are transforming the business world and making it easier to develop ideas and launch ventures. Hearing directly from successful professionals about their journeys and challenges was incredibly inspiring. It highlighted the importance of persistence, passion, and resilience. By the end of the event, many of us felt more motivated and confident about our own goals and future pathways. Overall, it was a fantastic initiative that showed us that entrepreneurship is accessible to anyone willing to learn, take risks, and keep trying. Credits to Elyssa Wehbe and Margarita BouFarraa

On Friday, the 6th of March, the College celebrated International Women's Day. It was a celebration of the women who inspire us, support us, and lead the way for future generations.

Our students and staff shared the women who have shaped their lives and what this important day means to them.

Together, we celebrate strength, resilience and the power of women in our community.

We thank our Student Representative Council, who made and sold purple ribbons to mark the event.

Year 12 USYD University Pathways Opportunity

During Pastoral, Year 12 students had the opportunity to engage with student ambassadors from the University of Sydney. The ambassadors spoke to students about the wide range of possibilities and pathways available for those considering studying at the University of Sydney and living on campus in 2027. This session is one of the many opportunities provided to Year 12 students to explore life beyond school and gain insight into further tertiary study. Students were actively engaged throughout the presentation and were given multiple opportunities to ask questions and interact with the ambassadors. Discussions covered key aspects of university life, including campus living, clubs and societies, undergraduate degrees, postgraduate pathways, and the overall university experience. Experiences such as these support students in making informed decisions about their future and help prepare them for the transition from school to tertiary education.

For pastoral, our Year 8 boys took part in an intense fitness session, proudly demonstrating the College theme of rising through challenges. The session focused on building fitness, wellbeing, resilience and teamwork, with the boys pushing themselves physically while also supporting one another throughout the activities. We were incredibly proud to welcome back ex-students Jorge and Zachariah Dayoub, who ran the session. It is always inspiring to see past students give back to the school community. Well done to the Year 8 boys for embracing the challenge today. We look forward to seeing the girls take part next!

H block Garden

Students had a wonderful time exploring and enjoying the H Block garden today. The space was filled with laughter, curiosity, and hands-on learning as they connected with nature, discovered new plants, and worked together.

We were also excited to introduce our new vertical planter boxes. The students eagerly helped fill them with soil, showing great teamwork and enthusiasm as they prepared the space for future planting. It was a fantastic opportunity for students to get involved, take ownership of their environment, and have fun learning outdoors.

Youth Leadership Conference

On Monday, 30 March, our Year 6 Leaders, followed by our Year 12 Leaders on Tuesday, 31 March, attended an inspiring leadership conference held at the ICC in Darling Harbour. Across both days, our students proudly represented the College with dignity, confidence, and respect.

Throughout the conference, students engaged with powerful messages about leadership, including the importance of leading by example, inspiring others, and learning from challenges, remembering that FAIL stands for First Attempt In Learning. These messages resonated strongly with both our younger and senior leaders, reinforcing the idea that growth and resilience are essential qualities of effective leadership.

Year 6 students were inspired by Paralympic archer Ameera Lee, who encouraged creativity, perseverance, and self‑belief. They also heard from Jack Berne, who shared his remarkable journey of raising over $2 million for Australian farmers since the age of ten, reminding us all that even the smallest voices can create meaningful change through kindness and determination.

The Year 12 leaders had the opportunity to hear from a diverse range of influential and inspirational speakers, including prominent community figures such as the Minister for Youth of New South Wales, the Australian of the Year 2023, and an Australian Olympic gold medallist in boxing. These speakers shared powerful insights into leadership, service, and the responsibility of using one’s platform to positively impact others.

Both groups left the conference feeling inspired and motivated, recognising the privilege of being role models within our College and the wider community. As current and future leaders, our students were reminded that leadership begins with everyday actions and the courage to make a difference one step at a time.
