✨ What’s Been Happening!
Since our last school newsletter, Lilydale High has been buzzing with energy, creativity, and achievement!
Here are just a few highlights from Term 1 showcasing our students’ talent, dedication, and school spirit:
🎨🤖 Exploring AI and VR in Art
Year 9 AEP students visited Yarra Ranges Tech School for an exciting excursion. They explored the ethics of using AI to create art, experimented with new AI apps to design movie posters, and even used VR technology to create immersive art experiences.
It was a fantastic opportunity for students to combine creativity with technology, gaining hands-on experience with cutting-edge tools while thinking critically about the role of AI in the arts. 🌟

🍫 Delicious Treats!
A big thank you to Ms Rubio’s Year 9 Compassionate Kitchen class for baking chocolate brownies for Year 9 students who completed NAPLAN. Year 9 classes received a box to share - a sweet and thoughtful gesture.

🍝 Spaghetti Bridge Challenge
On Friday 13 March, Mr Currie’s Year 12 VM Personal Development Skills class took part in the Spaghetti Bridge Challenge. Students worked in groups to design and build bridges using spaghetti while exploring different leadership styles.
The activity was a fun and engaging way for students to develop teamwork, communication and problem-solving skills. It was fantastic to see their creativity, collaboration and leadership in action!

🧬Unlocking CRISPR
Year 12 Biology students recently visited the Yarra Ranges Tech School to participate in the Unlocking CRISPR program.
This hands-on experience allowed students to connect their classroom learning with real-world applications, exploring how gene-editing technologies like CRISPR can be used to modify DNA and potentially treat genetic conditions such as cystic fibrosis.
The program provided valuable insight into the future of biotechnology and medical innovation.

Recently, Mr Currie’s Year 10 ADP class had FUN exploring the circulatory system. Check out these photos!
♻️ Year 9 Community Time – Container Deposit Scheme
Our Year 9 students have launched a Container Deposit Scheme to help clean up our school. Bins have been placed in staffrooms, with more being added around the school for students to use.
You can also support us from home by donating your container refunds using our school’s code: C2000078936. Funds raised will go towards lunchtime sporting equipment.

🎢 A Rush of Air: Year 10s Dive into the Physics of Flight
On 25 March, a group of Year 10 students from the Physics of Flight Science class visited iFly Melbourne at Essendon Fields. There, they experienced the sensation of terminal velocity in a safe and controlled environment using a powerful wind tunnel, followed by a STEM-based activity.
All students agreed it was a fantastic experience and said they would happily do it again if given the opportunity.

🤗🍿 Serving Smiles at the LHS Café!
On Thursday, 26 March, the Year 9 Community Time Café wrapped up for the term at lunchtime in the PAC Foyer!
Students enjoyed a delicious menu including nachos, brownies, lemon slice, ice cream sandwiches, popcorn, and barista-made drinks all for just $2.
♻️ Keep cups were a hit, with free refills for those who brought one along.
A big thank you to everyone who came down and supported the café. What a fantastic way to finish the term!
🎯🌭 Fun, Food & Fundraising!
On Tuesday 31 Marh, our Year 11 VM students held a sausage sizzle, bake sale, and probability stalls in the Year 10 quadrangle and PAC foyer to raise funds for charity.
Congratulations to Ms Kelso, who won the “Guess the M&M’s in the Jar” competition! Ms Kelso guessed 390 — and there were 396 in the jar!

🏃♂️ Leading the Way: Year 9 ADP at Chirnside Park PS Athletics Carnival
On 31 March, Year 9 ADP students had the opportunity to assist Chirnside Park Primary School at their annual Athletics Carnival.
Throughout the ADP program, students are invited to support local primary schools at sporting events, putting their leadership and teamwork skills into practice.
At this carnival, our students helped teachers run track and field events, gaining valuable experience in leadership, communication, and event management within a sporting setting.
It was a fantastic way for students to contribute to the community while developing important skills for their future.

🧠 Inside the Human Body: Year 10 ADP Excursion
The Year 10 ADP students had an amazing experience visiting Body Worlds in town. This world-famous exhibition has toured over 170 cities, captivating audiences worldwide.
Students explored real human specimens, meticulously preserved through Gunther von Hagens’ revolutionary plastination process, gaining an intriguing and hands-on look inside the human body.
It was an unforgettable opportunity to connect classroom learning with real-world science in a fascinating and memorable way.
