Talking the Talk
Next term, all students from Prep to Year 6 will take part in our annual Talking the Talk program. The program covers respectful relationships, human sexuality, consent and body safety, with the content tailored to be age appropriate for each year level.
Before the program begins, all staff will also take part in session with Vanessa Hamilton, an experienced educator and the designer of the Talking the Talk program.
As part of the program, Vanessa will be running an online information session for Northcote parents and carers on Wednesday the 14th of October from 7pm to 8:30 pm.
The session is a great opportunity to hear more about the program and get some practical advice about how to have age appropriate conversations with your children about topics such as respectful relationships and consent, body and online safety, puberty and development. Vanessa will also answer questions during the session.

Please note that the session is designed for parents and carers and is not suitable for children.
Book Week Parade
What a fantastic morning we had for our Book Week Parade last week! It was wonderful to see so many students (and staff!) getting into the spirit of Book Week, with an incredible range of creative, colourful and very impressive costumes bringing some of our favourite book characters to life.
A big thank you to all of our families who came along to watch the parade and help us celebrate. It was also great to see so many parents and carers and extended family members stay afterwards and head into classrooms to share in the celebrations and enjoy some time celebrating books, reading and literacy with our students.

District Athletics
Congratulations to all of our students who represented Northcote PS at the District Athletics. It was fantastic to see our students competing, supporting one another and representing our school with such enthusiasm.
A big thank you to the staff and families who supported our students and helped make the day possible, and congratulations to everyone who participated and gave it their best.
And who knows, we may even have the next Lachlan Kennedy among us!
Wear It Purple Day 💜
A big thank you to everyone who participated in Wear It Purple Day on Friday the 28th of August. It was wonderful to see so many students and staff wearing purple and showing their support for a school community where everyone feels welcome, valued and included.
Days like Wear It Purple Day are a lovely reminder that we all have a part to play in making our school a place where everyone feels safe, welcome and included. Across the school, students explored age-appropriate ideas about belonging, kindness, respect and celebrating what makes each of us unique.
SunSmart - hats required
A reminder that from Tuesday the 1st of September, all students are required to wear a sun protective hat for all outdoor activities.
Please make sure your child has their hat at school ready for next week. Hats need to shade the face, neck and ears, so baseball caps, peaked caps and sun visors are not considered suitable.
As the weather continues to get warmer, families may also like to consider including sunscreen in their child’s school bag and encouraging them to apply it before heading outdoors.
These simple steps are an important part of helping our students stay safe and protected while enjoying their time outdoors.
Mobile Phones and Smart Watches
A reminder that students who bring mobile phones or smart watches to school must have them switched off and securely stored during school hours. This means that all devices, including smart watches, must be handed in to the office by 9am each morning. Recently we have found that some students are forgetting this step. We would appreciate your support in having a conversation with your child about these expectations if they bring a phone or smart watch to school.
Parent/Carer Survey reminder
The Parent/Carer Opinion Survey is open online from Monday 17 August until Friday 18 September 2026. The survey link and access code were distributed to all families via email earlier this week. The survey is optional, but we encourage and appreciate your participation. Our school will use the survey results to assist in identifying areas to target for school planning and improvement.
Moving house?
As we begin planning for next year, we ask families who may be moving out of the area and will not be returning to Northcote PS in 2027 to let us know as soon as possible. This information is important as we plan class structures, staffing and year-level numbers for next year. We appreciate families keeping us informed of any plans to relocate.
2027 Prep Enrolments
A reminder to families that enrolment offers for 2027 Foundation have been sent out and families have until Friday 28th August to confirm their place. We look forward to welcoming our 2027 prep students and beginning our transition program during Term 4.
