Ukulele Concert:

Last week we took 68 students to Waitakere Primary School to take part in a Ukulele Festival hosted by Suzy Cato and featured on TV3's The AM Show.

Our children were awesome - singing and playing with pride, positivity, gusto, and polish. Huge credit to our Music Maestro, Mark McLay. Mark is a taonga nui at our school - a great treasure. Our children love him and love the opportunities they have to be creative in the realm of music and the arts. Our staff and parents love him because they see how enthusiastic our children are, how much they learn and grow, and how much they grow their confidence as creative collaborators.

The focus of school music for us is to:

  • Foster each child’s artistic curiosity
  • Provide opportunities for exploration and creativity
  • Provide opportunities to experience the JOY of musical collaboration

We have exceptional budding soloists (violin, harp, viola, piano, guitar) and opportunities for them to shine. Not everyone wants to learn to read music and perform on a solo instrument, though. For those who don't, we provide opportunities for children to learn to improvise, compose, and lead peers.

One evaluation measure for our programme is that the majority of our children RUN to get to our music classes! They LOVE the different learning agenda.

We have:

  • 85 children in Ukulele bands
  • 15 children in our Marimba Band
  • 45 children in Choir
  • And a rock band
