From the Principal

Take 2 - Colour My World

On Friday 20 October it will be our senior students from Year 3 to 6 who will be on stage for our second production. While many schools do not attempt one production, at St Francis de Sales we have two productions for 2023 one week after another!!! Last Friday our juniors were sensational on stage. This Friday it will be the turn of our seniors. Judging by all the rehearsals it will be a great night for our school. Our seniors are so excited and are looking forward to their first experience performing on our new stage at school.

Some alerts to keep in mind:

We have a full house for tonight's concert. There are no tickets available. If you or your child do not have a ticket, unfortunately there can be no entry as we have reached the capacity for our hall. Make sure every adult has their ticket to present on entry.

It is vital that all members of the audience take their seat promptly so that we can commence the concert on time at 6:30pm.

No food or drink is permitted once you take your seat.

The concert will be recorded and it is important that we ensure that theater etiquette is maintain at all times. Audience participation by clapping and cheering  is definitely encouraged. However, please do not disturb the performance or distract the audience with unnecessary noise or movement.

Toddlers and children must be supervised.

No one can play in or around the hall.

Mobile phones must be switched off.

The children and staff have put in an enormous effort and we look forward to seeing all our seniors STARS shine on stage.

I take this opportunity to thank Kristy our Music teacher and Rachel our Drama/Wellbeing teacher for all  their work in writing the script and supporting the children to sing, dance and act. Performing helps students to build confidence, which will in turn build their confidence more broadly. Working together Kristy and Rachel with the support of Home Group teachers have certainly provided valuable learning opportunities, built confidence and helped our children step out of their comfort zone and blossom.

The experience of performing improves communication skills, develops their ability to receive and respond to feedback, work in a team, collaborate and learn effective time management skills. The unpredictable nature of live performance helps students develop the ability to think quickly and improvise when things do not go to plan, and to stay calm in difficult situations. There are life-long benefits from experiences gained from opportunities to perform on a stage.

I thank Kristy and Rachel for their relentless work and efforts to consider the smallest of details. It is a huge task and they have been amazing with their teaching, planning and organisation that has ensured such a positive outcome for both the junior and the senior productions. I thank them for providing the space and the opportunity for our children to flourish and most importantly enjoy the experience of performing on stage.

Thanks to a team of people who have also helped to bring this together.

Thanks to Kristy for sourcing all the extra items for the costumes and parents who helped to sew and enhance the costumes. The costumes were spectacular and the children were extremely excited to step into their costumes. Thanks to the parents who brought their child to the evening performance with their costume and make up and for supporting your child behind the scenes to practice and step forward on stage and perform. Thanks to Katherine for painting and making some of the props and backdrops. Thanks to Ange and staff members who helped to paint. Taryn for being on lighting and Rachel on sound. Thanks to our P&F for organising the canteen before both shows. Thanks to all who supported and bought a ticket to see the show. Thanks to all our staff who worked backstage and front of stage and did countless tasks to make the production a success. We are indeed lucky to have the staff and school community that we have at St Francis de Sales. Without everyone who went the extra mile these events just would just not be possible.

Thank you.

Class Placements for 2024

Our teachers will soon commence the complex tasks of deciding class placement of students for 2024. Thus it is important that you have informed the school if your child will not be returning before we commence the task of placement. Please email principal@sfslynbrook.catholic.edu.au to inform us of your plans at your earliest convenience. We would appreciate an email before the end of October if this is already decided.

Teachers consider a number of factors when developing preliminary Learning Space and Home Group lists. They consider academic ability; special skills, needs and talents; social competencies; students who work well together and students who may not work well together. Skills needed for building new relationships are also an important part of our educative process. Our children will get asked to name three friends and we will consider their requests and place them with at least one friend in their learning space. Parent input based strictly on student learning needs, is also considered.

Parents who have specific concerns about their child's learning needs for 2024, are invited to provide written information via email to the principal. Please be aware that parent request for particular teachers will not be accepted.  Please email principal@sfslynbrook.catholic.edu.au by 3pm Friday 3rd November 2023.

A request is taken into consideration with other factors but is not guaranteed. Please note that we are not able to consider information received after the 3/11/2023, as once class list are made up they are extremely difficult, if not impossible to change. The ultimate responsibility for student teacher allocation rests with the Principal. Our school processes are most comprehensive and professional with decisions always made in the best interest of our students.

Parents will be informed about their child's Home Group Teacher in Semester two's report in December. Students will meet their Home Group teacher for 2024 on Tuesday 12 December at our whole school orientation morning.

Have a wonderful weekend.
