Term 4 English

Throughout Term 4 InitiaLit, the students have been reviewing and consolidating previously learnt concepts. We have also been learning new concepts including suffix 'ed' and prefix 'un'. We know that a prefix is a letter or letters added to the beginning of a word to change its meaning 'unlock', 'unpack', 'unzip'. We have also learnt new tricky words including walk, talk and know.

We have been completing pages from our More to Explore books. The book requires students to read the corresponding reader and complete the comprehension questions related to the book. Our comprehension skills are really great!

Throughout writing lessons, the students have been working hard at completing weekend recounts every Monday. Before beginning the lesson, we recap on our weekends and chat about the things that need to be including in our writing such as who, what, when, where, why and how. The students are becoming recount writing superstars!

We have also been working on our handwriting skills and ensuring we are forming letters and numbers appropriately. We understand that to ensure our handwriting is neatly presented we must be sitting straight with our feet flat on the floor. We have been working specifically on ensuring our sentences are super sentences. A super sentence must have a capital letter, full stop, be about someone or something and must make sense.

Our handwriting looks superb!

We have been continuing to complete regular brain breaks during class time to ensure that we are centred and ready to learn!

Take Home Readers

Each week, your child will be provided with one hard copy reader to read for the week. We ask that the book is read 2-3 times per week and is logged into your child’s reading diary.

If you would like to read an extra book for the week, your child may login to the MultiLit eLibrary using an electronic device. The eLibrary uses a browser-based platform, so books can be read on desktop computers or mobile devices (including smartphones and tablets). You will find the link to this website and your child’s login details at the front of their reading diary. Alternatively, your child may choose to read a ‘good fit’ book of their choice instead.

Your child’s reading diary and book needs to be brought back to school every Friday morning to be checked and swapped over by your child’s classroom teacher. We kindly ask that all books are taken care of and returned in good condition every Friday.
