TERM 4 ENGLISH

During our English lessons this Term, the students have been working hard in all areas of their learning. As we work our way through our last term of the Foundation InitiaLit Program, the students are working hard to consolidate their knowledge learned in class by completing a variety of English activities. It is amazing to see how well everyone is reading and writing - we are very proud of everyone’s achievements!

We have been focusing on using our sound-letter knowledge to segment individual sounds and digraphs in 4 letter words so that we can decode them to read and write them. We have been making attempts to read and spell digraphs such as; wh, th, sh, oo, ng, and ay.

We have also continued with our Storybook Lessons,  which is an interactive method of reading a story. The Students love these sessions and they assist in the development of their oral language and literacy skills. Through these lessons, children are exposed to a variety of language and vocabulary that they would not have necessarily heard before and we explicitly define the meaning of these words over several lessons.

In writing, the Foundation students have been continuing to practise their handwriting skills by making sure they use the correct formation and starting points for their letters.  We have continued to focus on punctuation and using full stops, capital letters and leaving spaces between our words when writing sentences.

We have been learning about the structure and purpose of Narrative stories and have begun planning and creating our very own Picture Story Books!

In 2023 the Perceptual Motor Program (PMP) will be running on a weekly basis for the Foundation students. Justin Scicluna runs our PMP program.

  If there are any family members who would be willing to volunteer and assist with the PMP sessions, please email justin.scicluna@education.vic.gov.au

In order to assist with these sessions, you will require a current Working with Children Check (WWCC) and it must be presented to the office before commencing the session. If you do not have a WWCC and would like to obtain one, please visit the below link;
