FOOTBALL
Football Champion of the Champions
Commencing in 1968, the Champion of Champions tournament is one of the most prestigious tournaments in the footballing calendar, with champions (after having met Association eligibility criteria) from each association pitted against each other in a battle for supremacy.
Lexi (C9) plays for Wakehurst WU15 girls and participated in this Competition. Just to be in the Champion of Champions competition is a big deal (you must be the Div. 1 winner in your age group to go on to the Champion of Champions competition and represent MWFA against all the other state champions). 300 teams participated and for the Wakehurst WU15, this resulted in overall winners for the state winning 4-0.
The last time this was won for a Wakehurst Women's team was in 2014. To complete, the girls were coached by Lexi's dad Jason, who has been ever-present at all the School games over the years and is always incredibly supportive of the school teams.
Congratulations to Lexi and Jason.
Ike's Remarkable Recovery and Championship Season
The journey of an athlete often encompasses both challenges and triumphs. In the case of Ike (G10) the past season was marked by a significant setback followed by an extraordinary comeback.
The season commenced on a difficult note for Ike when he suffered a debilitating ankle injury while playing for The Pittwater House at CDSSA Football. The injury sidelined him for a grueling 14 weeks, posing a formidable test of his determination and commitment to the sport. However, Ike's spirit and dedication shone through as he embarked on a remarkable journey of recovery.
Beyond his school commitments, Ike plays a pivotal role for the Northern Tigers in the NPL2. The Northern Tigers had an exceptional season, securing the minor premiership and ultimately earning the title of champions. Ike's contributions were vital to the team's outstanding performance, highlighting his skill and dedication.
The season's defining moment was the Grand Final, a fiercely contested match that pushed the boundaries of endurance. The game went into overtime, and the Northern Tigers emerged triumphant with a 3-2 victory. In this pivotal encounter, Ike's influence was evident as he scored a crucial goal that tipped the scales in his team's favor.
In conclusion, Ike's journey from adversity to victory is a testament to his unwavering determination and indomitable spirit. His ability to overcome a significant injury and make a remarkable comeback exemplifies the qualities that define a true athlete. His role in the Northern Tigers' success and his pivotal goal in the intense Grand Final make him an integral part of the team's achievement. Ike's remarkable recovery and championship season deserve admiration and applause. Well done, Ike!
SOFTBALL
Under 14 Softball State Championships
On the weekend of 16 and 17 September, Layla (C7) played in the U14s softball State Championships in Newcastle, representing the Manly Warringah Team. In this competition, teams were separated into two pools for the first phase. The following teams were represented across the weekend:
- Pool A: Georges River, Hornsby, Manly Warringah, Orange, Sutherland, and Tamworth
- Pool B: Central Coast, Cumberland Nepean, Macarthur, North Shore, and Penrith City
The 2023 U14 Girls Grand Final featured both North Shore and Manly Warringah with both teams brimming with confidence and excitement knowing victory was within reach after building strong momentum into the final via excellent all-around team performances throughout the pool stage and semi-finals.
The Grand Final was a one-sided affair with Manly Warringah laying the foundations towards victory with ten runs in the first inning. North Shore tried to mount a spirited comeback through some good batting and pitching, however, Manly Warringah halted their momentum swiftly putting on another nine runs in the second inning proving too strong for North Shore prevailing 19-0. Congratulations on this achievement Layla!

NSW All Schools Athletics Championships
During the recent school holidays, three students from Pittwater House, Billy (G7), Harvey (G7), and Max (G8), participated in the NSW All Schools Championships Athletics. These athletes showcased their talent and determination, achieving notable results in various track and field events.
Billy, who had previously secured 2nd place in both the 800m and 1500m events at the NSW CIS Championships, continued to impress at the NSW All Schools Championships. Billy managed to secure a commendable 5th place in the 1500m and a 7th place in the 800m. These results underscore his dedication and skills in the field of athletics, especially given the additional sports commitments he balances.
Max exhibited his skills in the NSW All Schools Championships by competing in two events. In the Boys 14 years 2000m Steeplechase, Max achieved an impressive 9th place. Furthermore, he broke his Athletics Club U15s 2000m Steeplechase record with an outstanding time of 6:58. Max's accomplishments not only highlight his talent but also his capacity to set new personal milestones and records.
Harvey demonstrated his sprinting abilities in the U13 400m event at the NSW All Schools Championships. Harvey not only secured 6th place in the final but also recorded a new personal best time of 57.17 seconds. His performance showed significant improvement and potential for further growth in the sport. Congratulations boys!
RUGBY
After fundraising throughout the rugby season, Lachlan (G7) and Ashton (P6), had an unforgettable trip to Fiji with the U12s Harbord Harlequins rugby club. These young athletes played games against local school teams, visited villages and schools, and donated heaps of school supplies, rugby gear, sewing kits, and more to local communities.
The boys drew in all their games, with Lachlan playing 2nd row and Ashton playing halfback. They played their first game barefoot as the other team didn’t have any rugby boots, headgear, or mouthguards. Game two was quite different, with their opponents fully kitted up and about twice the size of them!
While rugby and mateship were strong, their favourite part of the trip was playing and bonding with the locals and giving back to the community. Well done boys, we are proud of you!
The dedication and sportsmanship shown by these students during the holidays stand as an inspiring example to all students. We eagerly anticipate their continued success and further achievements in the days, weeks, months and years ahead.

SOFTBALL
NSW PSSA
During the last week of Term 3, Rose (J4) competed in the NSW PSSA 3-day softball tournament in Newcastle as part of the CIS team. She was one of only two girls selected from Year 4 in the competition and was able to hold her own against girls in Year 6 who were already playing at U14 rep level.
All the players dug deep, playing 5 softball games per day in 36-degree heat, and the CIS team placed a respectable 5th in the competition. According to Rose’s family, the standout for Rose was forming friendships and bonding with players from as far away as Orange. And her softball skills are going from strength to strength! Congratulations Rose!
