Discovering New Caledonia: French Immersion Tour
During assembly, Amaya, Clara and Faith from Year 11 French took to the stage to share the experiences of the students who embarked on the immersion study trip to New Caledonia. Through their words and captivating photos, these students offered the School community a glimpse into their enriching experiences and adventures.
“This school trip was more than just a great adventure; it was an opportunity for us to foster cross-cultural understanding, deepen our knowledge of French speaking communities, and immerse ourselves in the beauty of the French language.
During this voyage, our students were not just tourists in a foreign environment; they were explorers. They ventured into the unknown, navigating through busy stalls at local markets, sampling traditional cuisine, all whilst learning about the rich history and culture of the places they visited.
During this transformative adventure we were fortunate enough to visit a beautiful island located just a 40-minute boat ride away from Noumea. Amédée Island was certainly one of the highlights of this trip. Yet another valuable experience gained from this trip was our visit to Noumea’s cultural centre, at which we took a self-guided tour of the many sculptures, totems and artefacts that are sacred to the country’s history. Here, we also had the opportunity to learn about the native flora and fauna of New Caledonia via a nature trail and lookout, which also had informative checkpoints that taught us about the culture and customs of the island and its people.”
