Student Achievements
Alby Bradshaw
Congratulations to Alby Bradshaw (Year 10) who has been announced as an awardee in the 2023 Premier’s ANZAC Spirit School Prize competition.
Alby was shortlisted for his research about Private Walter Leonard East, who hailed from Forest Range in the Adelaide Hills. Private East, a distant relative of Alby’s, enlisted in the 10th Battalion AIF and landed on the shores of ANZAC Cove on 25 April 1915. For the next three weeks, Walter and the rest of the battalion faced constant artillery fire and heavy casualties. Walter was killed at Second Ridge on 15 May 1915. He was only 20 years old and had served at Gallipoli for just three weeks.
Curious to find out more about Walter’s part in the ANZAC story, Alby started researching his life in 2022. For this competition, he had to summarise his findings in a 1500-word essay. In addition, Alby had to compose a 500-word statement explaining his research process along with a 500-word personal statement highlighting his extra-curricular activities, community involvement and interest in history.
Alby feels it’s important to raise awareness about the sacrifices made by our military personnel, and to pass on knowledge about their service to future generations.
Walter’s contributions to the Gallipoli campaign reflect the ANZAC characteristics of bravery and perseverance. Alby reflects, “Learning about Walter’s service has extended my gratitude for what he, and so many other Australians, have sacrificed for our country. I am grateful to have had the opportunity to honour a family member and his legacy through involvement in this competition.”
Alby and the nineteen other awardees were presented with their medallions by the Premier, the Hon. Peter Malinauskas, at ANZAC Hall on Monday 6 November. The awardees will also participate in a fully-funded educational tour of Vietnam in April 2024.
We are very proud of Alby and his wonderful achievement. Congratulations!
Samantha Perryman
On Thursday 2 November, Samantha Perryman attended Government House to receive her Year 9 Debater of the Year Award. Achieving this meant that Samantha was the highest scoring Year 9 Debater of the 2023 Debating SA season, scoring the highest number of points out of 185 other Year 9 students across the state. To recognize her significant achievement, Samantha was presented with a medallion by Her Excellency the Honourable Frances Adamson AC, Governor of South Australia and Debating SA Patron.
The debating coaches are very proud of Samantha’s achievements and look forward to another successful season in 2024.
Congratulations Samantha!
Cobey Davis
Cobey Davis recently participated in the Viva All School Games representing Endeavour College at SA Athletics Stadium. The competition spanned an entire weekend, with Cobey showing great courage and determination over both days.
Cobey’s results are as follows:
7th in Triple Jump
4th in 100m Hurdles
4th in 200m Hurdles
2nd in Pole Vault
Personal best in 3 events
Placing in the top two in the Pole Vault automatically places Cobey into the National All Schools Competition in Perth later this year.
What an achievement Cobey, well done!
Charlotte Dahlenburg
A huge congratulations to Year 9 student Charlotte Dahlenburg, for coming second in the Geography Teachers Association of South Australia Photography Competition.
Both Charlotte and Jazlyn Yii were shortlisted in the competition and attended an awards ceremony at the State Library of South Australia on Saturday 28 October.
The theme for this year’s competition was “Changing Human and Physical Landscapes”, and entrants were required to simply take their own photo of a place in SA that has or is currently experiencing a human-made or natural change and write a brief description (less than 100 words) which describes the connection of the photography to change.
All shortlisted photographs are on display in a public exhibition at the State Library of South Australia in Adelaide until 17 December 2023.
SACSA Table Tennis
Last week we had seven Table Tennis teams compete over two days. The athletes were selected via trials and trained weekly in the lead-up to testing themselves against the SACSA sporting community. Most teams played extremely well, given that a lot of the opposition were club Table Tennis players. Throughout the event we had some mixed results, however, the stand out performance was our Year 7/8 Girls Gold team who secured a position in the Division 1 Grand Final, narrowly missing out on winning the gold medal, with a final score of
2-1. A massive congratulations to Jaslynn, Molly and Thinara for bringing home the silver medal. A special mention to Thinara who did not drop a game for the entire tournament playing as our number 1 against the opposition's best.
A big well done to all who participated.

2023 Australian Mathematics Competition
Last year, an impressive 47% of Endeavour College students received a credit or distinction. This year, the Mathematics Faculty is pleased to report that 51% achieved a credit or higher award, with 9 students receiving Distinctions and 26 students earning Credit certificates. Distinctions are awarded to students in Years 8-10 who rank in the top 20% of their year level and state, and to students in Year 11 and 12 who are in the top 25%. The students who achieved these awards are listed below.
Congratulations to all students who participated and challenged their mathematical thinking and problem-solving skills.

STEMIE National Finals
It was with a strong sense of purpose and inquisitive minds that the Year 10 STEMIE team approached the National Finals yesterday!
Held at the Samsung Smart School of UniSA’s Magill Campus, the Endeavour team had won their way to the competition after placing first in the Adelaide Metropolitan Region with their Mission to Mars project that was the culmination of a semester of hard work.
The Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics Innovation Experience is an initiative run by UniSA to encourage students to explore the skills needed for success in STEM industries, and build their collaboration, problem solving and logical thinking skills.
Over 500 students across Australia began the STEMIE competition this year, with just 42 students making it through to the National Competition. The Endeavour Team was represented by Kadison McLellan, Racheal Sim, Jacob Urlichs, Thomas Harding, Kaitlin Houlahan and Aimi Tong.
Throughout the day the team was faced with a range of challenges where they needed to utilise their teamwork, STEM knowledge and problem-solving skills to overcome them. The theme of the day was ‘STEMIEana Jones,’ with rounds including tasks such as programming with Arduino to perform morse code signals, engineering structures to achieve specific goals, overcoming phobias and identifying skeletal structures.
The tasks were timed with penalties applied if hints were needed to solve each problem.
The Endeavour College team performed exceptionally well, to finish third in the national competition. Our team demonstrated exceptional camaraderie, humour, resilience and determination throughout the day, which capped off a fantastic semester of STEM learning and development.
Our place on the National podium places Endeavour College in the top 4% of participants in the country, an incredible achievement.
We would like to extend special thanks to
Mr Jarrod French, who assisted with the Mathematical component of the competition, as well as Mr Jeremy Hughes who supported the team throughout the project.
Well done Endeavour College!
