Year 11 Camp:

Melbourne

In Week 10 of Term 3 the Year 11 students attended their leadership camp to Melbourne, staying at CYC City in the Melbourne CBD. The students were able to visit and experience the many wonders that Melbourne has to offer thanks to the hard work of Mr Otto Williams. Some of the activities included a tour of the Melbourne Cricket Ground, shopping at the South Wharf DFO, visiting the Melbourne Museum and an IMAX screening.

Whilst staying at CYC City, we were also able to grow closer as friends and peers through sharing dorms, various activities, and bonding over some great meals.

The Big Issue Classroom was a highlight as it was a valuable experience that gave us the chance to explore the homelessness disadvantage and social issues.  It gave many of us invaluable insights into the unfortunate conditions that many have to endure.

Overall, the Melbourne camp created many lasting memories and connections for the cohort. The Year 11s appreciated the hard work and effort many of the College staff and the Year 11 team put into the camp. This camp was exciting, heartwarming, and full of peer bonding.

This is definitely something the Year 10s should look forward to next year!

Stage 1 Outdoor Education Aquatics Camp:

Onkaparinga River

Thirty six hours of outdoor experiences and team bonding! The Semester 2 Stage 1 Outdoor Education class had a great time kayaking through the picturesque Onkaparinga River Valley, exploring a wild day on the Port Noarlunga jetty and surfing at Middleton.

The campsite at Waitpinga gave us protection from the strong winds and despite a little rain, the team used the time to further grow their bonds and pick up a few extra camping and outdoor skills.

Surfing was definitely the highlight, followed by a hot pie from the bakery to warm us up.

Year 11 Geography Excursion:

Christie Walk

Our Year 11 Geography students are currently exploring sustainable urban living. They have been examining the benefits of green spaces within our cities, and last week visited a sustainable living urban community, Christie Walk, in Sturt Street in the City. They spent time learning about how homes can be comfortable and sustainable even in the heart of the city, with roof top gardens, shared vegetable gardens, sustainable building products and passive temperature regulation.

“I learnt about things to consider when purchasing or building a house to reduce bills, and how considering these features can enhance economic, social and environmental factors.” Heidi Paton

Enterprising STEM Expo

On Thursday 9 November, the Year 10 Digital Technologies class visited UniSA Mawson Lakes to attend the Enterprising STEM Expo. The Expo is a showcase and networking event where students completing their final year in a STEM degree present their projects to showcase their talents. Our students were able to see the study pathways in STEM and the opportunities for it to be applied in a real-world context.

Of particular interest were those that related to sustainable engineering, machine learning for greater analytics and mapping aerodynamics through VR.

Our geographical and educational relationship with UniSA is strong and we hope to continue to build on it in the future.

Year 10 and 11 Examinations: End of Semester 2

As the Year 12 examinations are starting to complete, examinations for Year 10 and 11 students will be starting in Week 7 of this Term (November 28 - December 1).

Monday of this week is a designated Study Day (refer to Important Dates).

During Week 7 subjects with examinations at Stage 2 provide students to further prepare and practice to sit examinations.

Students are encouraged to take a balanced view of examinations and see them as learning opportunities. They are one form of assessment that require a distinct set of skills.

Students are encouraged to start revision as soon as possible. It is also helpful if students have a dedicated space at home where they can study. One skill relied upon in examinations is recall of both information and processes.

Other skills to be practiced for examinations are time management, planning, problem solving and focusing of attention.

All of these are valuable skills outside of examinations as well.

Many of the examinations at Stage 2 are now electronic. Students in Year 10 and Year 11 will also sit electronic examinations where relevant. Where an exam is an electronic examination, students need to bring their laptop, charger (named) and wired head/earphones.

May all Year 10 and 11 students aim to do their very best in the upcoming examinations.

Doing your best is nothing to do with luck and all about the preparation. An athlete does not turn up on the day without significant preparation.

Plan your study, stick to your plans, complete revision booklets and guides and ask for support from others when you need it.

Plan your way to success!

The examination timetable is underneath the heading, the Year 10 and 11 Semester 2 Examination Timetable and is also included in the TASS School Calendar for your convenience.

In the Doll House

Year 12 Graduate Art Exhibition

Last Friday evening we held the annual Year 12 Graduate Art Exhibition, celebrating the final artworks of the Stage 2 Art and Design Class.

We welcomed family, friends of the College as well as Art and Design old scholars back to showcase the amazing work, recognise and celebrate the journey it took to get there.

This year's theme, In the Doll House, highlights creativity and the desire to dream and learn. Having the courage to try new things and embrace learning through all its stages.

It's in these moments of trying, experimenting, and pushing boundaries that imagination truly flourishes. Every creative endeavour carries the potential for growth.

The artists and designers showcased within the exhibition exemplify the magic of imagination, the value of learning from mistakes, and the empowerment of daring to explore the unknown. A dolls house is a miniature world, and in it we find a reflection of our limitless creative potential.

A big thank you to both the Music and Food Technology faculties for their support and contributions to the event. The music played throughout the evening and the food prepared by students made the night extra special for those in attendance.

Year 12 Geography Tree Planting

Planting trees within urban areas is an important part of increasing biodiversity in our environment. It is a tradition of the College for our Year 12 Geography students to plant a tree on the College grounds for the Year 12 cohort of that year.

This year the students planted a Lemon Scented Gum.
