Come and Try Instrument Workshop

On Wednesday 1st November the Music Department held the annual Come and Try Instrument Workshop, targeted at current Year 6 students who would like to take up an instrument at Endeavour next year.

Students had a great time trying the different instruments on offer, and many signed up for our new Intensive Music Program in Year 7. It is a subject geared towards students who would like to learn an instrument and/or enjoy singing. If your child didn’t make it to the workshop but would like to be involved in our Music Intensive Program or take instrumental lessons at Endeavour (any year level), please fill out the attached subject selection and/or instrumental tuition form for 2024.

The subject selection form is only for those in Year 7 in 2024.

Instrumental tuition available at Endeavour in 2024 includes: Trumpet, Trombone, Clarinet, Flute, Alto and Tenor Saxophone, Violin, Viola, Cello, Guitar, Bass Guitar, Drums, Piano and Vocals.

For those 2024 Year 7 students choosing a wind instrument, there will be a discount of 50% for the first year of tuition/instrument hire. This is a great offer which provides a more affordable way to try out one of these instruments.

Music Learning LeaderCollision Challenge:

Year 7

How can we reduce the impact of a collision? This is what our Year 7 students will grapple with in our Science/Math Project-Based Learning this term. We recently invited five speakers from a variety of professions to talk about the effect collisions have in their positions. Our speakers included an Associate Professor from the University of Adelaide in the area of Biomechanics, a Crash Investigator and Research Engineer (also from the University of Adelaide), two Brevet Sergeants from Major Crash Division in SAPOL, an enrolled nurse, a Product Lead from Elders/QBE Insurance and our very own Endeavour College Counsellor, Henry Lee.

Students learn first-hand about the social, financial, physical, emotional and psychological challenges that can occur as a result of a collision. Now the challenge facing our Year 7 students is how can THEY help to reduce the impact of a collision through their learning and research.

Futures 2040:

Year 7

Year 7 students partnered with Green Adelaide to take part in the Climate Ready Schools Program as part of the Futures 2040 Project this year. Following a design thinking process, student groups worked through project stages to empathise, ideate and prototype solutions to mitigate environmental issues prevalent in our local community.

The project culminated in an exhibition. It was an amazing opportunity to engage with representatives from Green Adelaide and the Salisbury Council to give feedback to our students on their solutions.

A heartfelt thank you to the Year 7 Core team and Mrs Carol Thomas for supporting the project process.

Our Year 7 students are leading the way to mitigate climate change in our community. We are enormously proud of their efforts.

Adelaide Gaol

The Year 9 English classes had a thrilling and thought-provoking time on their excursion to the Adelaide Gaol. While we enjoyed touring the gothic grounds, historic hallways, and claustrophobic cells, it was the stories of the prisoners that truly had the students transfixed, particularly the tales with mysterious and macabre undertones. The mood changed from lively to sombre as we learned of the inhumane treatment and harsh punishments prisoners had to endure before the gaol changed its focus from punishment to rehabilitation. Overall, the excursion was a valuable experience that allowed our students to delve into colonial history, while also being a sensory experience that will provide inspiration for their next creative writing task.
