Southwest Middle Years Clay Target Competition

On Monday 23rd October, our Clay Target Team competed in the Southwest Middle Years Clay Target Competition for Year 7 - 10 (the last competition of the year). Despite a slightly cool start, the weather improved beautifully and our students competed very well against 220 other competitors, all of which were divided into two categories, experienced (over one year of experience shooting in comps) and novice (less than one year of experience shooting in comps).

Our first squad had a couple of small hiccups with the trap house breaking down as they had started shooting and had to move to another trap house. They then broke a few targets as competition began, only to find out that they had just been shooting at a far more difficult discipline of the sport and had to re-do those shots. This rattled some but they held their heads up high and kept smiling despite the setback. The lesson to be learned is that it did not matter what they had shot at, they still needed to look forward at the task ahead and shoot the next target without worrying about the past, this was a great life lesson.

At the end of the competition, some of our students had even laid down a personal best score, which is a great achievement in the face of the pressure that comes with competition. Well done and thank you to all those students who have participated over the year.

Year 3 Lawn Bowls

Over the last three weeks, Year 3 have embarked on an exciting opportunity to learn Lawn Bowls. They explored new skills, teamwork and strategy. With guidance, students learned the basics from grip and stance, to playing simple games. At the end of the three weeks, they were confidently participating in a friendly competition.
