KWS 4 Bumblebee’s v Oxley

Today the mighty Junior Bs took on Oxley College in Bowral. All 14 Bumblebees worked together collectively to take home our first win of the season. We supported each other throughout the game and did manage to score 4 great try’s despite the wet slippery weather conditions!!

Ally Ward scored our first try in the first few minutes followed by Claudia scoring straight down the middle of the field. Alyssa Ferguson our superstar winger received an amazing ball from Charlotte Cox and ran into space to score our 3rd try. Maggie Hall then came flying in with stepping her opponent and running 3/4 of the field to score our final try of the day. Amelia and Livvy came so close to scoring another 2 try’s but were penalised. The team showed great sportsmanship and supported each other with a big smile on their face the entire time :) Overall the Bumble Bees came out on top with a fantastic score of 4-0. Thank you to Miss madden for filling in and coaching the girls.

KWS 3 Amigos v Oxley

Today Junior a's took on Oxley at their home game. We started off strong in the first half with a score of 1-1. Ava Rosser scoring our first try and accomplishing a Cindy as we have been practising at training. In the second half Oxley unfortunately 1 upped us in the first 5 minutes making it 2-1. But we then came back with a winning score of 4-2. Try scorers included Grace Hosie, Annabel Swift and Minnie Whittle. Overall, we played very well and took the W for Kinross.

KWS 2 Icebreakers v Oxley

The morning started of early and after a long bus trip to Bowral we finally arrived at Oxley school. It was very cold, and the weather wasn’t pleasant, but we all pushed through. Our socks were soaked but it didn’t stop us. In the first 5 minutes Inter A's had already one upped the other team. Though with the game being tight at half time the score was 2-2 and despite the difficult circumstances we worked together. Big shoutout to Grace Shea who made try’s and stopped them very well including massive stacks to do so making her the ‘players player’. We finished the game in a 3-3 draw.

KWS 1 v Oxley

Our first grade girls travelled five hours this Saturday for a head off against Oxley College in Bowral. In a rough back and forwards game we came away with two tries from Eva Bonnington and Lucy Robb, drawing the game 2-2. Despite bad weather and other rough conditions, we are beyond proud of our team for sticking together and maintaining a calm and supportive attitude throughout the whole day. An extra thank you to Junior B’s Greta Cunial and Inter A’s Eva Bonnington for stepping up to support our team!! Well done girls.

Triathlon

The Triathlon season is off to a great start with students across all age groups, including Grace Segger, in Year 6. Students have been training four times a week in the three disciplines. We are so fortunate to be able to utilize Gosling Creek as our main cycle training venue. Our first competition was a Duathlon on Sunday 5 November. All students competed in the Super Sprint: 2 km run, 8.8 km ride, 1 km run.

It was a clean sweep with Kinross Wolaroi taking out the top placings: 1st Will Ward, 2nd Ollie Garard, 3rd Sam Commins, 4th Ashton Montagliani, 5th Zoe Wood, 6th Charlie Harris, 7th Lucy Ashton, 8th Imogen Christmas, 9th Jess Thompson, 10th Anna Childs, 11th Grace Segger, 13th Isobelle Montagliani.

Our new Captain of Triathlon, Will Ward, then went on to show his leadership skills as he cycled in the Sprint 22km cycle leg to support and guide some of his teammates from Triple Threats.

Students now prepare for the biggest event of this term, NSW Juniors Weekend, a two day festival of racing on 25-26 November.

Basketball

With 20 teams registered in the competition Kinross Wolaroi is definitely represented well in the local Orange basketball competition. It has been a great start to the season with players in a variety of division represented throughout the competition.

It has been great to have some experienced coaches like the boys 1st coach Jarrad Klose, Deputy Mayor Gerrald Power coaching the girls 1sts and Jayden Zezula coaching the 2nds and Jamal Zegzula coaching the mixed boys team. It is always great to have some experienced operators to assist in the program.

I would also like to thank all the teaching staff who are coaching as I know this is a big commitment. It is definitely rewarding coaching and its great to see teams improve throughout the year.

A reminder that its important to check the Basketball HUB page for transport and fixture details as there are lots of bus runs to and from events during the week. Please ensure that basketball uniforms are used to play in and that the shorts do not have pockets as this is a requirement for playing in Orange Basketball Association.

If you have not yet registered please ensure you follow the prompts that are on the HUB page. This should not come as a cost to you and if you type in the promo code that is on the HUB this will allow the school to be billed the full amount.

It was great see a number of Kinross students and community members involved in the NAIDOC week 3x3 basketball competition which was held at Kinross Wolaroi and supported by Basketball NSW and Indigenous basketball Australia. This was a great chance to be involved in the community and have some fun.

As we move into the warmer monthsI recommend that you wear hats and bring a drink bottle to trainings especially for those that are training outdoors. As the weather warms up its important that you practice being sun smart and that you stay hydrated.

I wish you all a rewarding and successful season and remember the way that prepare for games and train will be reflected on game day.

Tennis

Round 3 4/11/23

On the morning of Saturday 4 November the ISA tennis team left School to make their way to Springwood to play against Blue Mountains Grammar School (BMGS). After an early start, we arrived and were all keen to get on the courts.

As the day progressed it was apparent how equally skilled both schools’ players were, ending in the KWS Evens winning in a 11 sets to 10 victory over BMGS and the KWS Odds coming close with a 11 sets to 9 loss.

Congratulations to all who attended this event, especially Toby Gee, Frankie Mitchell, Sam Balcomb and Fergus Whittle who all made their first appearance for the season in the ISA team on the weekend.

Cricket Report

Week 5, Term 4 2023

Cricket season is certainly in full swing. It has been great to see so many happy faces on our cricket ovals over the past fortnight. There have been some outstanding individual accomplishments in this time, and some narrowly fought victories from our teams too.

Whilst the drier weather is causing concern for some of our families to the West, it has meant that we have had an uninterrupted start to trainings and fixtures this term. I commend our cricketers for the level of enthusiasm they are bringing to their training and competition fixtures and encourage them to continue. It is this enthusiasm to learn, and to be around our game that fosters growth in skills and forges memories into the future.

On the horizon is the commencement of our three school-based competitions. The Year 8 Dale McIntosh Trophy T20 competition is set to begin at 4pm on Thursday 9 November at Sally Kennett Oval vs James Sheehan. I congratulate players selected in this fixture, and welcome any spectators to the ground on Thursday afternoon. Further, both our Wiburd Shield (Year 9) and Douglas Shield (Opens) teams are drawn to travel to Dubbo to face Macquarie Anglican Grammar School (MAGS) in the coming weeks of the term. Team lists and dates for these fixtures will be posted via the HUB by week’s end.

Good luck to all for their fixtures this weekend – keep up the hard work!

Feature Match – Match Report (KWS Thunder v KWS Strikers – Week 3)

The Thunder continued their winning ways on Saturday when they defeated the Strikers.

The Strikers batted first and were restricted to 4 for 87 from their 25 overs.

The Thunder attack did a good job in keeping pressure on the Strikers throughout the innings. Leading bowlers were Billy Baldwinson (3 overs 1 for 7) Declan Dixon (2 overs 1 for 6), Nick Wood (2 overs 1 for 6) and Sam Thomas (2 overs 1 for 1). The bowlers were supported well in the field as far as ground-fielding was concerned and Henry Francis took a good catch to dismiss the dangerous Parker Lamond for 29 at a vital time in the innings.

The Thunder were able to chase down the total in the 18th over for the loss of only three wickets. The Thunder innings was dominated by Billy Baldwinson who made a composed 44 not out and Nicholas Wood who played in a mature fashion and finished with 23 not out. There was also some useful batting from Ash Robinson who looked better the longer he was in the middle.

Mention should also be made of the contributions of Ben Chambers, Angus O Brien and Lachie Turner from the Sixers. Ben and Angus bowled well and Lachie did a good job behind the stumps.

Finally, thanks to all parents for their help and support on the day. This is much appreciated by coach and players alike.
