Year Three

Hello Year 3 Families,

It's hard to believe that we're almost beyond the halfway mark for the term. It's truly remarkable to witness the significant progress our students have achieved in various aspects of their learning. Additionally, our students have been diligently rehearsing their dance routines for the upcoming carol's night, which is approaching fast. Furthermore, both Year 3 students and staff are eagerly looking forward to the upcoming camp experience scheduled for Week 8.

Reading

In reading, our students have continued to focus on non-fiction texts, paying particular attention to their structure and purpose. In this endeavour, they have examined various text features, including lists, photographs, labels, web charts, headings, text boxes, titles, logos, and illustrations, while also analysing the key vocabulary used within the text to analyse its intended purpose. Our students have explored texts sourced from Epic Books and non-fiction selections within their classroom libraries to assist them for this purpose.

Writing

In Writing, our students have been learning about Information Reports. They began using their research skills to gather information about any chosen animal, place, person, or object.

This information was presented as brief notes which were then transferred to a structured information report, including topic sentence, relevant headings, subheadings, and conclusion. As part of this, they learnt to use paraphrasing and ‘hook’ statements to engage the reader to their writing.

Maths

The students have been revising their number operation skills over the past fortnight. They have used vertical addition and subtraction strategies to solve a few problems. The students have also been engaged in some interesting number games to consolidate and reinforce these concepts. It has been great to see our students building on their learning from the year.

Inquiry

Students have been actively engaged in finding out about ‘Ecosystems’ during our Unit of Inquiry under the Transdisciplinary Theme- Sharing the Planet. Their investigations have led them to discover the diverse biotic and abiotic components that coexist within an ecosystem, and the intricate interdependencies that underpin these relationships. They made connections to the ‘Web of Life’ engagement which allowed them to make connections with the Central Idea- 'Components of ecosystems are interdependent'. These insights will act as a launchpad for further learning experiences during the next few weeks.

Reminders:

-Students will need to bring their hats in Term Four, these will be worn outside in the yard and during outdoor PE lessons.

-As the weather gets warmer, we recommend all students bring a water bottle to school to stay hydrated throughout the day.

-We are fast approaching the due date for our Camp Experience Excursion to Werribee Zoo. The payment for this can be made via XUNO, should you have any questions please reach out to your child's classroom teacher.

Best Regards,

Year Three Teaching Team
