Michael Carr-Gregg Presentation

We were lucky enough to have child psychology expert Michael Carr-Gregg speak to all of our students on Tuesday the 17th of October. He focused on strategies for improving the wellbeing of young people, particularly after a trauma such as the October 2022 flood. Some of the strategies he touched on were:

  • Diet (limit junk food and eat mood boosting foods such as eggs, lean meat, avocado, blueberries and kiwi fruit.)
  • Exercise (It is a natural mood booster. Young people all need to find some way of exercising even if it is just going for a walk or stretching their muscles.)
  • Sleep (Hugely important that teenagers are getting between 8-10 hours of sleep. To assist with this screen time should be limited especially at evening time in bedrooms.)
  • Friendships (Having positive friendships is really important for students.

He also said the number one thing that kills happiness is comparing yourself to others and talked about how bad social media is for this.
