ANZAC Ceremony

ANZAC Day is when we commemorate the Australian and New Zealand soldiers who have lost their lives or have been injured throughout the warsANZAC stands for Australian (and) New Zealand Army Corps. ANZAC Day occurs on April 25th every year. Traditions like dawn services, marches and the minute of silence give people a chance to reflect on sacrifice and the cost of war and it is a day to remember the sacrifice that our soldiers made for us.

Year 6 leaders attended the ANZAC Day Service on Thursday the 23rd of April at Box Hill Gardens along with 22 local schools. Each student received a small Australian Flag and a booklet which contained the service information.

While at the ceremony we were welcomed by John Haward, President of Box Hill RSL, and listened to the ANZAC Address given by Lynn Mizen. We also paid our respects listening to The Ode, The Last Post and the New Zealand and Australian National Anthems.

Two students from every school had an opportunity to carry a wreath down the aisle and gently place it on the War Memorial. On behalf of BEPS, two of our school leaders, Amy and Ethan, presented a wreath to pay respect to the serving and past soldiers.

Amy and Ethan (School Captain and Wellbeing Captain):

"We felt honoured to be there representing our school. It was a great opportunity to learn more about the ANZACs. Hearing the story of Jim Martin in the ANZAC Address was really inspiring, and laying the wreath was a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.”
