LIBRARY NEWS
Afternoon parents and carers,
Thanks to everyone for returning their books. So many books have been returned and are ready to go back on the shelves. If you have sent an email about a missing book or you think your child has returned it, I will have this sorted before the holidays. The books are looking forward to a nice rest during the holidays.
The Victorian Premiers’ Reading Challenge is now open and Alphington Primary School is excited to be taking part! So far, our students have logged a total of 136 books. What an amazing effort!
We had a great review published on the Premiers’ Reading Challenge page by George Adams in Prep E:
The 104-Storey-Treehouse. By Andy Griffiths.
I really like how it was really, really, really funny. And I loved all their levels. And I loved madam know it all even though she was a brain drainer fortune teller.I really liked Alice, Albert and the baby. I like how they knocked out the truncinator.
The Challenge is open to all Victorian children from birth to Year 10 and aims to help young readers develop a lifelong love of reading. It is not a competition; it is a personal challenge for children to read a set number of books by 18 September 2026.
Children from Prep to Year 2 are encouraged to read or ‘experience’ 30 books with their parents and teachers. Children from Year 3 to Year 10 are challenged to read 15 books.
All children who meet the Challenge will receive a certificate of achievement signed by the Victorian Premier and former Premiers. Students will be sent home their login credentials over the next week – a direct link to log in to the Premiers reading challenge can be found on the student portal.
More information can be found here- https://www.vic.gov.au/school-student-and-parents-taking-part-premiers-reading-challenge
The challenge relies on parents and students to enter the books onto the portal, this will not be done by your classroom teacher. Books then get verified by Lizzy each day. Challenge books can be found in our school library ready to be borrowed and enjoyed.
Since it began in 2005, more than 4.5 million young readers have taken part and together read more than 63 million books!

The year three students have enjoyed the story, Fox, By Margaret Wild and Ron Brooks. Each student drew their own image from a part of the story that they loved. All of the artwork is on display in the library with our collection of Margaret Wild books.
Happy reading and happy holidays!
Lizzy
