Year 4 Forces Incursion

On Friday 15th May, the Year 4 students participated in an amazing hands-on incursion about the forces of gravity, friction and magnetism. Students found out all of the different ways we use these forces in our everyday lives. Read all about this learning experience from some of our Year 4 students:

During the Forces inclusion, I learned about friction, magnetism and gravity. I went on a spinny board, and it was spinning because of the golf balls rubbing against the platform.

There was a chair elevator that was pushed up by the force of a lever. It was really fun, but it was tricky to pull the lever. We also pulled apart a robot and put it back together with nuts and bolts.

I liked the incursion because it was very hands-on and fun. It was amazing as everything was home-made.

Overall I think the incursion was fun because I learned a lot of new things.

On Friday, we went to a ‘Forces’ incursion in the Gecco. We learnt more about the forces of gravity, magnetism and friction.

For friction, we learnt that devices that use nuts and bolts use friction to stay in place. In the magnetism activity, I teamed up with Mia to make up a marble run with magnets. We turned the round magnet around to test it. With gravity, people sat on chairs. Other people pulled levers, creating air pressure, pushing the chairs up. The instructor pulled a button and the people on the chairs went jolting down.

Overall it was an amazing experience being part of the incursion. It helped me understand about forces and the experience was indescribable.

On Friday, the Year 4s went to an incursion about Forces. We learnt a lot and saw some very cool things! Keep reading to find out what we did!

My two favourite activities were when we made a robot. We had to unscrew bolts, and completely take it apart. Then we created a French Teletubby. My next favourite thing was an elevator ride. Two people pushed a lever up and down while other people sat on chairs that slowly went up. Once you made it to the top, the instructor pushed a button which made you go straight down.

My thoughts and feelings about the robot was that it’s really cool, but you have to do a lot of thinking with it. The elevator just straight up amazed me. No words for it!

Overall we had an amazing time and learnt a lot about forces!
