Grade 5 and 6

Term 2 - Reflection
And just like that Term 2 has come to an end and what a jam packed term it was! The second half of the term saw more Interschool Sports, Girls Footy Day, Hooptime, Connection sessions, Natural Disaster projects, assembly performances, Bike Ed and more! Take a closer look at everything we have accomplished!
English and Inquiry: Natural Disasters
It has been a full term learning about Natural Disasters and producing our information texts and dioramas across English and Inquiry. The planning and effort that has gone into these projects showed a wonderful depth of understanding on their chosen Natural Disaster. Students have been building their skills in locating and evaluating information by navigating websites, scanning texts for key details and recording important facts. They have also been using this knowledge to plan and write informative texts, strengthening their ability to organise ideas, use subject-specific vocabulary and communicate information clearly. This week, we invited the school community to our showcase to share our projects and be the experts of our Natural Disaster. What a great turnout, thank you all for coming! Take a look at some of our projects:
Numeracy
In Mathematics, we have continued to develop our number knowledge. Students have been building their understanding of fractions and decimals through a range of problem-solving and hands-on learning activities. Fraction, decimal and percentage BINGO has been a hit!! Grade 5 students have focused on comparing, ordering and converting fractions and decimals, while Grade 6 students have extended their learning by applying these skills in more complex contexts. Grade 6 students have also been exploring 12-hour and 24-hour time, developing confidence in reading, converting and solving real-world time problems.
Leadership and Connection
As the senior students of our school, we continue to strengthen our connections with one another and develop the skills needed to be the leaders of today and the future.
Congratulations to our EarlyAct representatives! Grade 5 students, along with Luka (Grade 6), recently prepared and presented speeches as part of the application process for leadership positions within the EarlyAct Program, which is run at our school in partnership with the Rotary Club.
EarlyAct is a service club designed specifically for primary school students. It focuses on kindness, leadership, and helping others within our school, our local community, and beyond. Students are encouraged to become young changemakers by developing ideas, working collaboratively, and making a positive difference through service and leadership.
All applicants spoke confidently and shared thoughtful ideas and initiatives they would like to bring to the role. We were incredibly impressed by the quality of their presentations. At Monday's assembly, our successful representatives were presented with their leadership badges and officially recognised in their EarlyAct roles. They are: Luka, Isla, Arlo, Emma, Pip, Isabelle, Rose, Josie, Willow N, Kai, Lacey, Piper C, Alex, Ella, Eva, Lila, Ava, Sully, Lucy, Zach, Piper D and Scarlett. We look forward to seeing the positive impact they will make throughout the rest of the year.
In Grades 5 and 6, students have also participated in a series of sessions focused on respect, positive relationships, and leadership. The girls worked together to build a deeper understanding of one another, develop confidence in expressing their ideas within a larger group, and strengthen their connections with their peers. Meanwhile, the boys explored the concept of healthy masculinity, particularly in relation to sport, teamwork, and positive interactions with others.
These experiences are helping our students develop the confidence, empathy, and leadership skills needed to contribute positively to our school community and beyond.
Sports
That is it for Grade 5/6 Interschool Sports for 2026! It was a great term, everyone participated well, showed amazing sportsmanship, we got some wins but always had a wonderful time coming together on a Thursday afternoon. A big thank you to the Grade 4s for participating this term, Ms M and Mr Webber for also supporting us to make it all happen. And thank you Jess Longstaff for coaching the Netball team each week!
Congratulations to Piper D who made it through to Regional Cross Country and representing us at a high level and showing great determination and stamina. You are a STAR!
We also participated in Girls Footy Day on Friday, 19 June. Mr Smith, Miss Buzzini and Mr Webber, along with our pre-service teachers Olivia and Charlotte, had a fantastic day supporting the team.
Girls of all abilities joined in and gave their best effort. Those who had never played footy before embraced the challenge, developing their skills in kicking, handballing, tackling (and a few throwing the ball!) and teamwork throughout the day. The excitement was contagious when we scored our first point, and even more so when we went on to kick three goals for the day, an incredible achievement and an awesome feeling for everyone involved!
Our footy girls displayed outstanding skill, determination and sportsmanship, progressing all the way to the Grand Final, where they narrowly missed victory by just two points. Despite the close result, they should be extremely proud of their efforts and the fantastic day they had.
A big thank you to all the parents, friends and supporters who came along to cheer on the team. Your encouragement and enthusiasm were greatly appreciated.
The Big Freeze
And to finish off our wonderful Term 2, we had a Big Freeze event. We had plenty of laughs, community spirit and a splash of icy fun as we came together to raise funds in the fight against MND. This year's event featured a dunk tank for adults and for students a slip-and-slide, with some of our brave staff members taking the plunge for a great cause!
Thank you for all the money raised and everyones support with this event.
Thank you for your continued support across Term 2.
Enjoy the break and we will see you in Term 3!
