The Deplorables | We'll see you on the pitch!

The St Mary’s College Theatre Performance class proudly presents The Deplorables by Christine Davey. This sharp, funny and inspiring play shines a light on a remarkable piece of Australian history and the extraordinary women who refused to stay on the sidelines.
Set in Bendigo in 1874, The Deplorables tells the story of Australia’s first women’s cricket match. What begins as a charity event quickly becomes something much bigger when the women involved challenge the expectations of their time. Praised for their efforts one moment and criticised the next, these trailblazers discover the power of standing together and speaking up.
Blending humour, movement and ensemble storytelling, this engaging production celebrates courage, resilience and the determination of women who dared to challenge the status quo. It is a story that remains as relevant today as it was over 150 years ago.
