Head of Junior School

Mrs Jo Messer

Mid Week Assembly

We warmly invite you to join us for our Mid-Year Assembly on Monday 30 June at 1.30pm in the Nagle Centre of St Mary’s College. This is a special event which will celebrate the achievements and talents of our boys from the first semester.

During the assembly, students will be presented with Mid-Year Certificates from their class and specialist teachers, recognising their efforts, progress, and accomplishments across various areas of school life.

You will also be treated to performances by our Year 5 and 6 Bands and the Junior School Choir—a wonderful showcase of the musical talents being nurtured at our school.

We look forward to sharing this special occasion with you and celebrating all that our boys have achieved so far this year.

After School Pick Up Arrangements

We kindly ask that when collecting your son after school, you please avoid taking liberties with parking. We understand the challenges and restraints of our city-based school and the limited parking available, but we must all respect the designated areas to ensure safety and smooth traffic flow.

Please do not park across the driveway to the Junior School, before or after school,  thus blocking access for our school bus which may be returning from an event, or an emergency vehicle.

Please do not park in the Presbytery car park at the top of Patrick St (just before Barrack St). This car park is for SMC staff, who pay for their parking. Please do not also park on the top tennis court, as this car park is designated for SVC staff only. Thank you in advance for your cooperation with this matter.

Sacramental Celebrations at the Cathedral

This term, we proudly celebrated a significant spiritual milestone for eight of our students from Years 3, 4, and 5, as they received the Sacrament of Confirmation. Having already completed their Reconciliation in Term One, the boys took this next step in their faith journey during the 10:30am Mass at the Cathedral, a special occasion presided over by the Archbishop.

The boys looked resplendent in their formal uniforms, which they wore with pride as they stood before their families, teachers, and parish community. We commend their reverence and commitment throughout the preparation process.

Looking ahead, these students will continue their sacramental journey next term as they prepare to receive their First Holy Communion. In addition to these individual sacraments, class masses have continued to be a meaningful part of our school’s spiritual life. Students from all year levels are participating in Masses at the Cathedral with Fr Bernard, fostering a strong connection between school and parish. So far, we have celebrated Mass with our Year 5-6 and Year 3-4. Next week our and Years 1 and 2 classes will be celebrating their joint Mass. Our youngest learners in Prep and Kindergarten will be taking part in a special liturgy next term.

These experiences are a wonderful way for students to grow in their faith and take an active role in the liturgical life of the Church.

Cross Country Success

Congratulations to our Cross Country team who recently represented SVC at JSSATIS and STCPSSA Cross Country events. They performed admirably, demonstrating determination, sportsmanship, and school spirit throughout the competition. We are proud of their efforts and achievements. Next a small group of boys from Years 3 to 6 will head north to Symmons Plains for the Tasmanian All School Cross Country event. We wish them luck for their respective races.
