Strategic Direction Consultation Process

Over the course of last week, I accompanied Mr Bob White former EREA Principal and Delegate on several evidence gathering sessions. Mr White specialises in School Based Strategic Directions and will play a key role in supporting the College in our next strategic direction period.

A significant part of a new strategic direction is the consultation period. Whereby stakeholders are able to share views and thoughts on the key successes and also the challenges which face our community.

I would like to formally thank our parents, Advisory Council members, staff and students for their engagement within these sessions. To hear the passion, enthusiasm, celebrations and concerns from each group was extremely powerful.

Of particular note was the words and ideas portrayed by our students. To say Mr White and I were impressed was an understatement. Hearing first hand from their experiences and the manner in which they conveyed these messages was nothing short of exceptional.

A significant theme which came through each session was centered around our bond, our relationship and our connection with all members in our community. The below quote highlights what is so important in a schooling context but also what our stakeholders have referred too.

“We learn through relationship, not through transaction”

In all that we do, we do so in partnership and in relationship with one another. Our young men thrive when they see and can acknowledge the true meaning behind our intentions and our aims as teachers. When this is done so through mutual respect and with one another, we give ourselves the opportunity to learn in this way.

Assessments, Exams and Reporting

Term 2 is a busy period with all eyes on reports which will be distributed at the end of term. Assessments and exams are coming thick and fast. We wish our Year 10s well as they engage in their exams this week.

With all the tasks and items dues on Simon Dashboards, it is imperative that our young men put their best foot forward and try their best. Our best however, requires courage. Courage to have a red hot go despite what others may think. Having the courage to make the right decision and or having the courage to choose the right approach.

I encourage parents to include the checking of your son’s Simon Dashboard as a regular reference point. PAM is the mechanism to check feedback and results. Assessing work habits and routines after school, especially for our senior students could do them well as they reflect on their current levels of courage.
