The Power of Reverence: Building Respectful Hearts and Minds
Dear Families,
As we journey through another meaningful school semester, we want to take a moment to highlight one of the core values that shapes the spirit and culture of our school community: reverence.
Reverence is more than just good manners - it is a mindset of deep respect and humility. It calls us to recognize the dignity of others, to appreciate the world around us, and to value traditions, beliefs, and shared experiences. At St Mary MacKillop College, we believe reverence is foundational to our mission of forming not only capable learners, but also compassionate and respectful citizens.
Throughout the school day, students are given many opportunities to practice reverence:
Reverence isn’t something that happens all at once - it’s something we grow into with practice, encouragement, and example. This is why your role at home is so important. When families model respect in conversations, create routines of gratitude or reflection, and remind children of the value of every person, these small moments reinforce the lessons we’re teaching at school.
Together, we can help our students understand that reverence is not just a behaviour - it’s a way of seeing the world. It teaches them to listen more closely, care more deeply, and act more wisely. And in a world that often feels rushed or divided, cultivating reverence is one of the most powerful gifts we can give our children.
Thank you for walking with us in this shared mission. We are grateful for your support and for the privilege of helping your children grow in heart, mind, and character.
With appreciation,
Kath Jones
