Dear Families,
I hope you are enjoying the school holiday period. Our apologies that the newsletter didn't go out last Friday, we were having many technical issues due to departmental network outages. Please read below for our final newsletter of term 2.
The final 2 weeks of school have been jam packed - the P&F Bogan Bingo was an event I will never forget! I can't thank Jacqui Warfe and the P&F enough for their dedication and organisation of the evening and to all families that attended or bid on items in the silent auction, your generosity and support mean so much. Over $10,000 was raised to assist in refurbishing our school library! We still have a few Bogan Bingo vouchers to be collected and paid for. Everyone who still needs to collect should have received an email.
It was wonderful to see our families engaged in parent teacher interviews this week. The time to sit and discuss student progress is incredibly valuable and further solidifies home/school child centred partnerships.
I had the privilege of attending the T-ball semifinal this morning at Bailey Reserve. A huge congratulations to the green T-ball team who beat Bentleigh West and will compete in the final next term against Tucker Road Primary.
Yesterday our School Improvement Team had a planning day where we started to map out where we want to go as school through the lens off curriculum, wellbeing, resources and staffing. It was really meaningful to have to the time to look at where we currently are and discuss the enablers and barriers for where we want to go. We were also very fortunate that our Inclusion Outreach Coach, Christy, joined us for the afternoon session. We look forward to exploring more of this work during the term as a whole staff and then sharing with our community.
We have a lost property table in library just as you exit from the front office area. There are bottles, food containers, and a few other odds and ends.
I wish everyone a happy and safe holiday and look forward to seeing you on Monday 21st July for the start of term 3.
Please continue reading for other important updates and exciting happenings around the school.
As we continue to reflect on and improve our Homework Program, we’d really appreciate your input. Please take a few minutes to complete the short feedback form below. Your thoughts help us shape future learning experiences.

This photo was sent to us by Sandra Mobbs of her mum's (Valerie Mae McCormick) class. Valerie is 85 now, so this photo would be circa 1940s. A lovely memory of our school and a reminder of it's long history.
Do you recognise where this photo was taken?
Declan Z took part in the divisional selection cricket trials at the beginning of June at Junction Oval for the 12 and under State Schoolboy team. Declan was the was the youngest trialist to make this stage. Although he didn't make it through this year, the selectors gave very positive feedback and are keeping a close eye on him for next year.
OPS are super proud of how well Declan performed and how the process has made him hungrier for next time.
Keep going Declan, we know you can do it!
A Chess Victoria Zonal Inter-school Tournament was held on Thursday 19 June 2025, and OPS ranked 9th amongst the ~20 Schools that participated (based on taking the top 5 students of each school).
A total of ~110 players competed and each one competed in a total of 7 rounds with progressively matched difficulty, i.e. players were paired with the stronger opponents as they won, and difficulty levels were reduced in case of losses. 0.5 points are awarded in the case of a draw.
Congratulations to all of our team who represented the school:
Jaishna K
Jeremy S
Edwin X
Rihaan A
Isaac Z
Andrew L
We are extra proud of Jeremy S's strong performance - winning 5 of his 7 games. Each OPS chess player competed well and the top 5 collectively earned 19.5 points.
We look forward to more players joining the team for next terms' competition so that we might qualify for the state finals.
For students who would like to enrol for Chess Club in Term 3, please head to the Out of Hours Care & External Service Providers page for the registration form. Alternatively, we have some hard copies in the school office.
We are happy to announce that Smile Squad will be back at Ormond Primary School from 08 October to 14h November 2025.
More information will follow in August, but in the meanwhile, pencil the dates in your diary for a free dental check-up for your kids!
Last night, our school was graced by a magical moment. As the sun was setting, the sky was lit up with a breathtaking sunset over our campus. Just when we thought it couldn’t get more beautiful, a rainbow arched across the sky. It felt like a reminder of the beauty that can be found right here, in the heart of our school community.
For those who saw it in person, we're sure you agree how spectacular it was. For those who missed it, we hope these snapshots brings a smile to your face.
With thanks,
Anna-Marie and Aaron
