2025 General Achievement Test (GAT) – Important Information for Students, Parents and Carers

 

Please note that the 2025 General Achievement Test (GAT) will be conducted on Tuesday 17 June in the Bunjil Centre at Wheelers Hill Secondary College. The GAT plays an essential role in assessing students’ general skills and contributes to quality assurance in the VCE assessment process.

 

GAT Structure

The GAT is split into Section A (Literacy and Numeracy) and Section B (General Knowledge and Skills). Marks are not deducted for incorrect answers.

 

Section A: Literacy and Numeracy

  • Writing Task:
  • One writing task with 2 parts.

     

  • Multiple-Choice Questions:
  • 50 questions in numeracy
  • 50 questions in reading.

Section B: General Knowledge and Skills

  • Writing Task:
  • One extended writing task.

     

  • Multiple-Choice Questions:
  • 25 questions in maths/science/technology
  • 25 questions in humanities/arts/social sciences.

 

Key Reminders for GAT Day

 

Arrival Time: Arrive by 8:30 am in full school uniform

  • Electronic Devices: All mobile phones and smartwatches must preferably be kept at home. Mobile phone and electronic breaches are taken seriously by VCAA.
  • Breaks: Students must stay on school grounds during the break.

What to Bring

  • Black or blue pens, pencils, erasers
  • Scientific calculator (not CAS)
  • Printed English and/or bilingual dictionary (no electronic or thesaurus dictionaries
