Class Placement Requests 2026

Truganina P-9 College has already started planning for the 2026 academic school year. The process of creating classes and student class placement begins months before the end of the school year.

We understand that in certain situations, parents and carers may like to request that their child be placed with a particular friend or in a particular class.

If you have any educational information about your child that you believe the College needs to know as they consider the placement of your child in their 2026 class, please do so before Friday 15th August 2025.

Request for placement with friends

Truganina P9 College recognises the importance of fostering and maintaining friendship groups. We also understand that it is equally important for students to mix and learn with peers who have different interests. Requests for students to be placed in classes with other students of their choice will be considered, however the teachers and leadership team will not always be able to accommodate preferences when formulating classes.

Requests for placement with certain teachers

All teachers at Truganina P9 College are caring and committed educators and the school strives to ensure every student is provided with a high-quality education. Whilst we appreciate that you may wish that your child be placed in a class with a particular teacher, we are unable to accommodate these requests.

Our school leadership team has an in-depth understanding of each teacher’s

strengths and will always endeavour to place our students with teachers who are best placed to suit their needs.

The process of creating classes starts in Term 4 and is based on a number of Factors:

  • Meetings with all classroom and specialist teachers regarding appropriate class placements and transition information
  • Establishing an equitable balance of students across the classes inclusive of gender, learning and emotional needs
  • Observational information from teachers, wellbeing staff and school leaders

The process takes hours of work by our team of Teachers, Wellbeing, Administrative and Leadership staff. The decisions regarding placement of students is made by the staff at the school and is based on their professional opinion of where a student will be best placed.

Thankyou,

The Transitions Team

Enrolment Management Implementation Plan (EMIP)

The Department of Education supports schools to ensure every child is able to attend their local school. Truganina P-9 College is under an Enrolment Management Implementation Plan, which sets an enrolment restriction for 2025 and 2026 school year. This is comprised of the entry criteria outlined below.

Enrolment Restrictions

Our school has an enrolment restriction under section 2.2.16 of the Education and Training Reform Act 2006 (Vic).

Approved entry criteria for our school for the 2025 and 2026 school year are:

  • students who live within the school zone
  • students with a sibling attending the school at the same time
  • students seeking enrolment on compassionate grounds, in exceptional circumstances.

Students seeking enrolment in Foundation and Year 7 must meet one of the above criteria to be eligible for enrolment. Students seeking enrolment in other year levels continue to be subject to the Placement Policy.

The department will review this enrolment restriction yearly and provide updated advice as necessary for the subsequent school year.

This form has been designed to support students to apply for a place at a Victorian Government School. If the student is offered a place at Truganina College, a School Enrolment Form and supporting documentation will need to be completed to finalise enrolment.
