Year 5/6

Senior School Term 2 Update

Senior School and Wellbeing by Miri Kaur

It has been a busy term in senior school. We have had our whole school Athletics Day and our School Disco. In Athletics we competed in different events such as hurdles, shot put and long jump. We competed in our houses against other students in our year levels.

The whole school had a Disco, everyone dressed up in neon and white colour clothes to glow in the dark. There was lots of singing and dancing. Everyone had an amazing time! As part of our wellbeing we made our own ready to learn scales. Our Ready to learn scales are used to keep track of how we feel once we get to school and what we can do to help ourselves to get ready to learn if we don’t feel ready. We also got to design our own scales, so we got to have our own pictures on the scale. We participated in a wellbeing program as a senior school, Moving into the Teen Years (MITTY). We were taught about puberty that we get around our teen years, also the changes we get as we grow older.

Lightning Premiership and Winter Sports by Blake Summers

This term the senior students have participated in four different sports: AFL, Netball, T-ball and Soccer. Every Friday we played a different school, everyone showing our values and sportsmanship. Towards the end of term we had lightning premiership, which is a whole day carnival against the other schools. We all had so much fun playing the sports we love. Every   game was like a round robin and whoever won the most won the whole day. Everyone had a fantastic day and some sports will progress to district competition. The AFL team won the day, and T-Ball were runners up.

Learning in Maths by Kaden Farrall

This term the senior school learnt a lot of different maths topics. We covered things such as area and perimeter, creating home designs and exploring measurement. We learnt about fractions and decimal fractions, and how to use operations such as addition and subtraction when working with decimal fractions. We learnt about 2D shapes and 3D objects, creating shape city and learning about the nets that can be made from 3D objects.

Learning in English by Lexi Ravenhall

The seniors have learnt a lot in their English classes this term including two novels, The Call of the Wild and Help Around the House. The Call of the Wild is a story about survival, sled dogs and a gold rush in an extreme environment. Help Around the House is about Government and Parliament, and how honesty and corruption can exist. We are also learning about Government, and how Parliament works in Australia. We have been doing lots of research and are excited to present what we have learnt at the end of the term.
