Dear parents, families and friends,
We have come to the end of a very long, very busy and tiring term.
Swimming Program
The final session of the swimming program will be held this Thursday 3rd July. Attending each week I have been able to witness the growth and development of the children. I have also been very impressed with their behaviour travelling to and from the pool, displaying good manners and excellent listening skills. A very big thank you to our teachers and parent volunteers for their dedication and diligence in ensuring the students are safe and supported at all times. I also thank them for sitting on the pool deck in the heat and steam with their glasses fogging up and their eyeballs burning and itching from the chlorine!!
Below is an email we received complimenting our school travelling on the train:
"Good afternoon all! I just had the privilege of travelling from Altona to Yarraville with a group of your students and 2 educators. The children were so well behaved listening to the educators, and their laughter was just beautiful and infectious! Congratulations to all!
Made my day! 😀Moira Vosper"
Feast of the Sacred Heart Mass
On Thursday morning we celebrated a whole school mass for the Feast of the Sacred Heart of Jesus. This feast honours the physical heart of Jesus Christ as a symbol of his boundless and passionate love for all of humanity. The devotion to the Sacred Heart is deeply rooted in our Church’s history and spiritual life, reflecting the core of Christian faith: the infinite love and mercy of God. Traditionally it has also been linked with the St. Vincent de Paul Winter appeal, being called the Poorman's Mass and more recently, the Mass for the Poor and Needy. Just as God loves us as expressed through the love of Jesus and his passion on the cross, we are called to show our love for others by sharing what we have with those in need and less fortunate than ourselves.
St Vincent de Paul Winter Appeal
Thank you to all families that very generously contributed towards the St Vincent de Paul Winter Appeal. The baskets and baskets of food items, toiletries and clothing were collected by Gail (Mrs Witchells' mum) who leads the St. Augustine's Chapter of St Vincent de Paul. All the donations will be distributed to thos in need in a parish and local community.
Learning Conversations
This Tuesday and Wednesday we will have our mid-year Learning Conversations. By the time you read this newsletter you will have had the time to sit with your child/children and read their report together. The Learning Conversations will provide you with the opportunity to delve into the report and discuss your child's achievements, challenges and next steps in their learning. The teachers have worked very hard to produce the reports, collecting data and evidence from tests, assessments and work samples.
PJs, Onsies & Oodies Dress Up (Dress Down) Day
To celebrate the end of term we have a casual clothes day this Friday. The theme is PJs, Onsies and Oodies. The children will need to wear shoes or runners however.
Hot Dog Lunch
There will be a Hot Dog lunch this Friday. Remember to complete the Trybooking form to order your Hot Dogs as we will be cooking to order to avoid left overs and wastage. Thank you to those parents who have volunteered to cook and serve the Hot Dogs.
Important Upcoming Events
Help Needed!! Disposing of Old White Wooden Planter Boxes
The two wooden planter boxes near the entry gate need to be disposed of. We need 2 to 4 parents to offer their time (15 minutes) after school this Monday 30th June. It could be slightly dirty work.
A reminder that school finishes at 1.15pm this Friday 4th July with the conclusion of Term 2.
As always, please ensure you read each page of the newsletter. It does get written each fortnight and we do make an effort to ensure we update information.
I hope that all students can have a restful and enjoyable winter school holidays, staying warm and safe but also having lots of fun and some sleep-ins.
