Year 3 - 4

Launch. Explore. Summarise.

This term, our Year 3/4 cohort began using the Launch. Explore. Summarise. instructional model to deepen their understanding of measurement.

This approach begins with a real-world problem to launch student thinking, followed by an explore phase where students work collaboratively to test ideas, make predictions, and try out measurement strategies. The summarise stage brings the learning together as students share their thinking, compare methods, and reflect on new understandings. This structure is designed to promote curiosity and persistence in maths.

Throughout the unit, students have developed confidence in using a range of measurement tools, such as rulers, tape measures, trundle wheels, and scales. They've worked on estimating, measuring, and comparing lengths, capacities, and masses, all while building teamwork and problem-solving skills. It’s been fantastic to see students take pride in their thinking and explain their strategies with growing confidence and clarity. We’re excited to help our learners develop strong mathematical thinking skills in a meaningful and supportive way.

Lightening Prem

Two weeks ago, on Thursday 29 May, the Year 6 students went to Geelong Grammar School to participate in an interschool sports competition.

We had a range of sports to choose from, including volleyball/Volleystars, soccer, footy, T-ball, and netball. In preparation, we trained every Friday at Tallis to build our skills in our chosen sports.

When we arrived at Geelong Grammar, we headed straight to the courts and fields where we would be competing. The atmosphere was buzzing with excitement. The experience was spectacular, and we were proud to bring home four premiership flags!

In volleyball/Volleystars, we faced tough opponents, but we played as a team and managed to win. We were also victorious in footy and soccer. Everyone played their part, showing teamwork, persistence, and school pride.

It was an unforgettable experience, and we will always remember the fun, challenge, and success of that day. - Ana B and Yah Na S PD2
