Year 5/6 Cluster News

HOME INQUIRY:

Reading: Aim for 20 minutes minimum reading per night. We encourage students to read aloud, either to themselves or a parent.  Don’t forget to record your book for the Premier’s Reading Challenge. You can take a photo of your book on your iPad to help with remember the information needed.

Mathematics: Students are to work on the recall of their x3 multiplication facts.

If they feel confident in these, they may choose the next number they are not automatic in recalling.  You may like to create flash cards or skip count aloud with your child to help support their learning with this.

Inquiry: Talk with your child about animal adaptations. What have they learnt so far? What do they want to know more about?

Current and Upcoming Learning

Reader’s Workshop:  Students will continue reading information reports that connect to our inquiry topic of animal adaptations to support their information presentation.

Writer’s Workshop: In our unit of inquiry, students will continue to inquire into the structures and features of information reports. There will be a focus on enhancing our research skills, finding keywords and learning how to paraphrase information effectively.

Mathematics: We are continuing to explore fractions, learning how to represent them, finding equivalent fractions, comparing them and simplifying fractions. This foundational knowledge will support our upcoming work on decimals and percentages, as we make connections between fractional, decimal and percentage representations.

Inquiry: Our Unit of Inquiry for ‘Sharing the Planet’ is now underway. The central idea for this is, “Living things adapt to physical changes on Earth to survive, influencing and being influenced by natural processes”. Students will begin their research for the information presentation on Friday and will continue working on it next week.

Reports:

Reports will be released in toddle on Friday afternoon after school.

Glow Week:

Just a reminder that you are invited to our GLOW Week Celebration afternoon on Friday 27th June. This begins at 2pm in the Worship Centre.

We would love to see you there to celebrate and share in the learning that has occurred during this week.

We would love donations of cardboard pieces/boxes for our activities across the school. Please send them in as soon as they are available.
