Pentecost, often called the “Birthday of the Church” marks the moment when the Holy Spirit descended upon Jesus’ followers, empowering them to spread his message across cultures and languages. In a contemporary context, Pentecost reminds Christians of the power of community and the importance of inclusion. Many churches use Pentecost as a time to reflect on how the Spirit moves in modern life: through social justice, acts of compassion, and the courage to speak truth in challenging times.
As a nation, we recently acknowledged Indigenous rights and Reconciliation. As Catholics, we are called to reconcile and assist in building respectful relationships between our First Nations People. As a school, each class acknowledged this important week through a range of activities including literary studies, artwork and visual literacy. We look forward to further celebrating the gift of our First Nations peoples as the original custodians of the land in Week 10 when we will celebrate NAIDOC Week.
Understanding Your Child’s School Report... What the A–E Grades Mean
As we approach report time, I would like to explain the A–E grading scale used in Australian Primary Schools. These grades reflect how well your child has understood and applied what they’ve been taught during the semester. This means that even if they received a Thorough Grade last year, it does not guarantee the same grade this year. This is because the content, knowledge and skills will all change and therefore, so too can the overall grade.
Please find below a summary of grades:
A – Extensive: Your child demonstrates a deep understanding and can apply their skills in new and challenging situations.
B – Thorough: Students have a solid understanding and can apply their learning in familiar situations.
C – Sound: Your child is achieving what is expected for their year level.
D – Basic: Students are working toward the expected standard but need some extra support.
E – Elementary: Your child demonstrates limited skills and understanding in this area.
It’s important to note that a “C” grade is a strong result—it shows that your child is on track and meeting the expected standard for their year level. Reports will also include a teacher comment to highlight your child’s strengths and suggest areas for growth. These comments offer a great starting point for supporting learning at home.
Parent interviews will take place in Week 9, please see Compass for booking details. This is an excellent opportunity to meet with your child’s classroom teacher for further feedback.
