PRINCIPAL'S MESSAGE

The Moorabbin Primary School Community touch the land and think of the Bunurong People and surrounding Clans of the Kulin Nation
who cared for the land before us.
We share our gratitude to their Elders past, present and emerging. As we touch this land, we promise to treasure it, taking care of all its people, animals, plants and waterways. We at Moorabbin Primary School appreciate this land.
Thank you.
Dear Families and Carers of Moorabbin Primary School,
As we continue to have a very busy term, this will be our last newsletter. For the term, the swimming program for Years 2-4 is continuing until the last week and this program will run over certain times of the day, with some disruptions to classes, so unfortunately there was no THURSDAY assembly for this week.
The last day of the term is Friday 4th July; the children will be dismissed at 2.30pm.
There will be an assembly at 2.00pm on Friday and students will be dismissed at 2.30pm.
If you require care in the afternoon, Team kids will still run their afterschool care program,
please book directly with them via this link: https://www.teamkids.com.au/venues/moorabbin-primary-oshc-5/
GOODBYE TO MS ROMI KATZ! BON VOYAGE!
I would like to take opportunity to say thank you and goodbye to Romi, we were fortunate to have had her come to our school when we needed a teacher to cover for a maternity leave position a few years ago. Romi stepped into classrooms with enthusiasm, care, and a genuine passion for working with students. From the moment she arrived, Romi quickly became a valued part of our school community, building positive relationships with both students and staff, and bringing a calm, reliable presence to her classes.
Now, as she prepares to embark on new adventures and travel, it’s time to say goodbye. While we’re sad to see Romi go, we’re incredibly grateful for the time and energy she has shared with us. On behalf of the whole school community, we wish Romi all the very best for the journey ahead and hope to see her back one day in the future. Ms Katz last day will be Tuesday 1st of July. Safe travels and have the best time!
REPLACEMENT TEACHER FOR 3K
I would like to warmly welcome Ms Rachel Low to our school and community who will step into 3K and support the class and students for the remainder of the year. We are working with her current school to release Ms Low so she can meet and greet students and parents in the last week of term 2. Please click on the link below to find out a little bit more about Ms Low.
SCHOOL CONCERT - TERM 3
MESSAGE FROM MR LEEDEN
‘Moorabbin Mystery Inc.’
Dear Parents & Guardians,
The time of year has finally come to start preparing for our School Concert in Term 3!!
Students will be performing in an original concert called ‘Moorabbin Mystery Inc’.
In Moorabbin Mystery Inc., five friends—cheeky Charlie, scaredy-cat Billy, detective-obsessed Jack, cheerful Penny, and logical Andrea—are preparing for their final school concert. But when Charlie mysteriously vanishes before the show, the gang reactivates their old detective club to solve the case. Their spooky search leads them through a haunted house filled with singing skeletons, dancing mummies, friendly ghosts, and vegetarian zombies. As chaos unfolds and musical acts light up the stage, the kids uncover clues, face frights, and rediscover their friendship. A hilarious, musical Halloween adventure with plenty of twists—and tacos—before the final celebration begins.
This year our School Concert will be a little different to how we have done it in the past. Due to the size of our school now, we are going to do two concerts over two consecutive nights in the last week of Term 3. The concert will be performed at Kingston Arts Centre.
If students have a surname that begins with A-J then they will be performing on the first night. Wednesday 17th September and Students who have a surname beginning with K-Z will be performing on the second night Thursday 18th September.
The dates of the concert are below:
Wednesday 17th September (A-J cast and audience)
Thursday 18th September (K-Z cast and audience)
Due to us having an A-J and a K-Z cast, each class will be paired up with a ‘buddy class’ and will be performing the same song together on stage. This way, it will not be only half of one class each night, it will be half of 2 classes on stage doing the same performance.
The Lead Roles will be performed by students from Grade 5 & 6. Auditions for these roles will occur on Thursday (26/6).
There will only be one group of lead roles from Grade 5 & 6 that will perform over both nights.
Class teachers will be in touch with Parent Reps either at the end of this term or beginning of next term to discuss student costumes. It is a great help to have as much support from parents and our community as we can to help make/source/sew/create the costumes.
More information regarding tickets, rehearsal day, and other bits of information will be communicated to you across next term.
If you have any questions or concerns, please speak to your class teacher.
Thank you, we are so excited to see our students perform in our School Concert next term!!

STAYING CONNECTED – REACHING OUT TO YOUR CHILD’S TEACHER
At our school, we believe strong partnerships between home and school make a big difference in supporting student learning and wellbeing. We also understand that some parents and carers may feel unsure about how to contact their child’s teacher or may not realise they’re welcome to do so.
Please know that you are always welcome to reach out. Teachers are available for a quick chat before school (8:55–9:00am) or after school (3:30–3:50pm). If you need more time or prefer a different option, you can also email the teacher directly via the compass portal or via the school email to request a meeting or ask the teacher to get in touch. These are great ways to start the conversation.
Please be aware that Tuesdays and Wednesdays are school meeting nights, so staff may not be available after school on those days. If you send an email outside of school hours, it will be responded to the next day or within 24-48 hours depending on the nature of the email or during the school week.
We understand that many parents use WhatsApp or similar messaging platforms to stay connected and share information. While these groups can be helpful for reminders and support, it's important to remember that they are not official school communication channels. We kindly ask that they are not used to make assumptions, share unverified information, or express frustrations about school matters. If you have questions or concerns, the best way to get accurate information is to contact the school directly. We are always happy to clarify, support, and work with you in a respectful and constructive way.
We ask that all communication is made with kindness and respect, and we will always extend the same in return. Working together ensures the best outcomes for your child, and we truly appreciate your involvement and support. Working together helps create the best possible environment for your child to learn and thrive.
We are often asked about how our staff communicate with the parents in their classes:
Face-to-Face Conversations – Quick chats before or after school, or scheduled meetings to discuss progress, behaviour, or wellbeing.
Parent-Teacher Interviews – Formal meetings held once or twice a year to review academic achievement, strengths, and areas for growth.
Email Communication – A convenient way to share updates, answer questions, or arrange meetings.
Phone Calls – Useful for timely conversations about specific incidents or concerns, or to share positive news.
Class Newsletters or Updates – Overviews of what’s happening in the classroom, including learning topics, events, and student highlights.
Online Platforms (Compass, school Instagram and Facebook pages and Home group App when the students are on camp) – Sometimes provide real-time updates, student work samples, behaviour reports, and messages.
Written Reports – Sent home mid-year and end-of-year to formally report on student progress across learning areas and social development.
Parent Information Sessions – Held at the start of the year or term to explain routines, curriculum, and expectations.
Celebration Events, Assemblies or scheduled special days eg. Class/cohort expositions– Opportunities for parents to see student achievements and connect with teachers in a positive setting.
IEP/SSG meetings- for identified students who have learning needs, disabilities or extreme social and emotional well being concerns. These meetings are often scheduled once a term or as required and negotiated with external providers including the class teacher, the Assistant Principal and or the principal.
I leave knowing that MPS will be in the capable hands of Mr Corrigan and Mrs Tsekouras as they run the school in my absence while I begin my long service leave. We have achieved many so much this term- successful Mother’s day stalls and Luncheon, a vibrant and super active MPS P&F committee and school council, great and very popular fundraising from our Year 6 parent group, student achievements in and out of the classroom, little leaps for some of our vulnerable students, our school review, the installation of the new playground, two very successful working bees.
Our sporting, musical, artistic, scientific, SEL lessons, and fun in Chinese with all our specialists, along with the adversity of staffing illness and internal changes. Along with class expos, incursions, excursions and everything else that we have had on this term! It has been a big one!
11 weeks is a long term, and I can see and feel the tiredness in our community. Wishing you all a safe and happy holiday and I look forward to returning and catching up with everyone Monday 11th August.
