Greenvale Primary School Kindergarten

At Greenvale Primary School Kindergarten, we begin each day by acknowledging the Traditional Custodians of the land and pay our respects to the land and Elders past and present.

In the 3-year-old classroom, we are nurturing a deep and ongoing connection to Country while building our understanding of Reconciliation. As part of this journey, we read Welcome to Country by Aunty Joy Murphy and Lisa Kennedy. In this story, they were introduced to Bunjil, the creator spirit of the Wurundjeri people.

The story sparked thoughtful conversations and curiosity about how Bunjil created the people, animals, and plants. We were very impressed by how the children demonstrated their learning and interest by contributing to a shared art work of Bunjil using natural materials. They were particularly engaged in exploring Bunjil’s colours and identifying its different body parts, showing their growing awareness of the Aboriginal culture and appreciation for storytelling.
