Visual Art

As Term 2 comes to a close, the art room has been a hive of creativity, colour and clay! Students across all year levels have engaged in a fantastic variety of hands-on projects, experimenting with different techniques and materials.
Ceramics featured strongly this term, with Grades 1, 3, 4 and 6 all exploring clay construction techniques. From cute teacups to detailed clay plaques and containers, students learned how to roll, model, join and decorate their work with care and creativity.
Our youngest artists in Prep dived into a warm and cool colour study, creating vibrant underwater scenes filled with texture and colour contrasts. They ended the term learning about how artists can use the elements of colour and line to express emotions. Grade 2 students produced bold abstract collages inspired by Reggie Laurent, using paper and paint pens to explore shape, space and pattern. In Grade 5, students studied the work of contemporary artist, Ana Falcetta and combined delicate watercolour painting with hand stitching, producing beautiful mixed media artworks that showcased both visual and textile skills. Grade 6 students extended their learning with Indigenous-inspired bracelet weaving, embracing the cultural significance of the practice and building their fine motor skills along the way.
Every class has demonstrated dedication, imagination and a willingness to try new things. The results are impressive, and the artworks created this term reflect the students’ growing confidence and skill.
Well done to all our young artists for a wonderful term of creativity!
