Principal's Report

Principal's Report

I would like to welcome our community back to Term 3! I can’t believe how quickly this year has flown by and we are already past the halfway point. I have been appointed the Acting Principal from the remainder of Term 3 and I would like to thank everyone for supporting me as I have transitioned into the role.

Last week we bid farewell to Sam Luck, our former Principal, who has left us to take the role of Principal at Diamond Valley College. I would like to thank Sam personally for the years of support and mentoring he gave me from the minute I began at Collingwood College.

I was also immensely fortunate to spend two years sharing an office with Sormeh Afkari. We worked side by side as she led the primary school with heart, care and compassion. Her farewell from the community was a credit to the relationships and the impact we have seen her have at our school. I want to thank her for all the time she spent giving to Collingwood College. We will miss her greatly and wish her all the best in her new role.

I would like to welcome Scott Duncan to Collingwood College, who's officially started full time with us as of this week. Please make him feel welcome.

This term, Tim Webster who is based at Wurun Senior Campus has departed us for a new job opportunity. I would like to thank Tim for the 8 years he has spent at Collingwood. Joseph Lorbark has take over his classes at Wurun and I would like to welcome Cameron McCowan is joining us at the main campus to take over Tim’s classes. Cameron has been a familiar face around the school, teaching across the year levels this past semester.

Thursday Market

It was fantastic to see so many of you attend and so many stalls at the relaunch of our Thursday Market last week. The market is one the things that makes our school community so special. The market will be on weekly this term expect for September 12th as we prepare for Swing into Spring the next day.

Many thanks to Hannah Marshall for her hard work and dedication in leading the relaunch.

If you're interested in having a stall, please see further communications within our newsletter.

Year 10 Work Experience

It has been wonderful to see our Year 10 students in their work experience placement last week and this week. Many have completed additional placements in the school holidays in a variety of workplaces.

I would like to mention and congratulate Mairead for her work experience placement at Melbourne University in the Faculty of Science focusing on physics. Mairead has since been offered the opportunity to complete credits in  an early university course in 2025. Fantastic work!

Also a big congratulations to Sahal from Year 9 who was one of a select group of students from across the state to complete the Melbourne Zoo’s Youth Leadership Course. Her graduation last term, gave her the opportunity to speak in front of 100 people including the CEO for Zoos Victoria!

Community Cup

Last term the Reclink Community Cup was held at Victoria Park. Collingwood College was a sponsor of the event with a dedicated team of parent, staff and student volunteers running the Kids Zone on the day. This was a great success with 270 kids participating in activities on the day. It was also a great practice event for Swing into Spring, which is being held on Friday 13th September.

Dookie Farming Camp

The CYBEC foundation has confirmed and granted Collingwood College 30 places at the Dookie Farming Camp! This camp is held in Term 4 and open to all Year 9 & 10 students to attend. The camp is on the University of Melbourne Science Campus between Shepparton and Benalla and focuses on organic farming, bushlands, conservation and natural resource management. We will have further details of how to attend in the upcoming weeks.

Wishing you all a warm Term 3 as we head into Spring.

Kind Regards,

Angela Watters

Acting Principal
