 SENIOR MATHS : LS2

TIME: HOW LONG DOES IT TAKE?

Over the past couple of weeks, Clinic 1 has been diving into the fascinating world of time and how it affects different events. For example, how getting to school can either be a quick hop or a longer journey depending on where you live! We've been having some fun estimating how long it takes us to do things, like reading a paragraph from a book, and then putting our estimates to the test with digital timers. It's been a real eye-opener to see how accurate (or not!) our estimations can be.

We've also been applying our newfound time skills to real-life scenarios, like planning a day out in the city or organising a kids' party. It's amazing to see how time really does fly when you're having fun, or how tight schedules can sometimes feel like a puzzle to solve! The best part has been seeing the kids working together, asking questions, and figuring things out as a team. There's nothing quite like hands-on learning and discovering new things together. It's been an adventure for all of us, and I can't wait to see where our

Maths journey takes us next!

Choir News

The choir have been busy practicing this term on Tuesdays and Thursdays at lunchtime. The children did an amazing job singing at the Harmony Day prayer service on Thursday morning. They sounded beautiful! Just a reminder that the children are expected to come to all practices unless they are sick, as well as attending the actual event. There were many children who got up to sing on Thursday who have not been coming to practice. There is a commitment required to come to practices as well as the performances. We will be having school photos next Tuesday 26th March and the choir will have a group photo. Can you please send the choir top to school on that day so the children can change into the choir top for the photo. If you do not have a choir top, please let Nicole or Rachel know so that we can arrange for a top. A note went home a few weeks ago asking for parents to sign the form to give permission for the children to attend local excursions to sing and to order a top if needed. Can you please return these signed completed forms to school ASAP. If your child did not get a form, please ask them to ask Nicole or Rachel for a letter to come home. The choir will also be singing at the Holy week prayer service on Wednesday morning next week and will need to bring their choir top to school. The children need to ensure they are wearing the school uniform correctly and have their hair looking neat and tidy. We look forward to more opportunities to sing in Term 2.

Thanks

Rachel and Nicole

Students learnt many new skills and I am sure we have had some students discover that netball is a sport they enjoy. If your child is interested in joining netball after school, there is a flyer attached in the Community section of the newsletter.

SFS HOUSE CROSS COUNTRY & COLOUR EXPLOSION

Thursday March 28th, 2024

The SFS House Cross Country is on the last day of this term, Thursday March 28th and it will be held at school. Seniors will participate from 8.45 -10.00 and Juniors from 10.00-11.00. It is important that Seniors arrive at school on time especially the 12/13 year old students at their race will begin at 8.45 am. If they are late, they will miss out on their race.

The track will commence behind LS2 and go along the side of the basketball courts, down the front of LS3 and LS1, around the rainbow playground and out the gate near the front of the school. They will then run across the front of the school and through the gates near the hall, across the front of the hall and back to the oval.  Gates to the car park will be closed and there will be parents supervising along the track.

Foundation: One lap around the track

Grade 1:                       One lap around the track

Grade 2:                       One lap around the track

8 year olds:                  Two laps around the track

(This race will be mixed both boys and girls)

9/10 year olds:             Two laps around the track

11 year olds:                 Three laps around the track

12/13 year olds:           Three laps around the track

If parents need to enter the school they will need to use the pedestrian gate near the rainbow playground. Please use this gate only. Parents who are attending to support their child, there will be a designated area for you to sit behind the Hall or behind LS2 near the sandpit. This is a great spot to view the start and finish of the races as well as the colour explosion. Please feel free to bring chairs to sit on. We ask that parents remain in this area for the safety of our students.

There will be separate races for boys and girls in each age or grade level except the 8 year old race where girls and boys will run together. Students placing in the first ten will be awarded a ribbon and points for their House and those who are first in each race will have their names engraved on the perpetual school trophies that are kept in our trophy cabinet.

Students will be required to wear their sports uniform as they will be running, but we hope that they will wear a t-shirt that is in their house colour. They may also accessorize in their house colour.  Eg. hair ribbons, socks, sweat bands, hair spray.  They will also need to bring their drink bottle and hat. Please also remember to update your child’s profile on Operoo and acknowledge the Cross Country note.

Students will then also participate in the Colour Explosion. Please ensure your child is wearing a t-shirt you don’t mind getting colour on, though from experience I can assure you the colour does wash off. Please remember to register your child online for the Colour Explosion and donate to Parents & Friends fundraising. If you do not want your child to be involved in the colour explosion please let your child’s home group teacher know.
