Professional Learning Community 1 (Grade 1)

Professional Learning Community 2 (Grade 2)

In PLC 2 we have had such a busy term with so many adventures - our most recent escapade being swimming. The students really enjoyed their Water Safety Day in Week 6 where they experienced what it would feel like to fall in to the water fully clothed. It was a great experience for students and we were so impressed with the hard work and determination that they put into the swimming program this year!

Back in the classroom, students have been looking at the features of a book and how these can support our understanding of a text and how we can infer beyond what a text has said to build further understandings of our characters. Why not ask your student about some of the character traits that they have discussed this week?  All term students have been learning about rules within our community and they will be putting this learning to good use after receiving an extra special letter. Students will persuade their audience of a rule that should be changed and why. In Numeracy we have been looking at measurement, area and perimeter. Students loved exploring the size of sea creatures and the hands-on opportunities offered throughout the unit.

This just about wraps up our term, but don’t forget to keep up the home reading, we have had so many students reach 25 nights and are fast approaching 50. Keep up the great work! Also keep an eye out for Portfolios that will be coming home early Term 2. When these do come home, please take time to look through and celebrate your child’s achievements this from Term 1.

Professional Learning Community 3 (Grade 3)

Professional Learning Community 4 (Grade 4)

A week to go before our term break! Last week, Camp notes went out via Compass. Please read these, submit them and let your classroom teacher know if you have any issues or questions.

In Reading and Writing this week, we have enjoyed reading our class text Charlie and The Chocolate Factory and practising using Fluency to read Charlie as a Play Script. We also had some fun taking on a new persona and experimenting with intonation and phrasing. We broke some rules on purpose in Writing- check in at home to see what they were!

In Numeracy we have been working on building addition and subtraction skills and applying these when using money. We have also practised these skills in our number talks.

Some of our students have now reached 25 nights of home reading! Well done to those students who have. They have received a certificate and their name in the assembly draw. We count up now to 50 nights! For those students looking to hit the first 25 nights, remember to sign your dairy!

Next Monday we have some students representing Delacombe at the District Athletics. We wish Lizzy, Rubi, Huon, Liam, Harrison, Brydie, Ruby, Elijah V, Macklin, Aidan and Elijah H all the best and hope they have lots of fun!

Professional Learning Community 5 (Grade 5)

Can you believe it? Term 1 has zipped by in the blink of an eye! It's been a whirlwind of excitement, learning, and achievements, and we couldn't be prouder of all that we've accomplished together.

In just 9 weeks, we've embarked on incredible journeys of growth and discovery. From conquering our swimming certificates with the incredible guidance of Shyane Reese to showcasing our athletic prowess on Sports Day, we've shown the true spirit of teamwork and determination.

But that's not all! We've also had the privilege of stepping back in time during our unforgettable excursion to Sovereign Hill. Walking the streets of yesteryears, we've experienced firsthand the wonders of days gone by, enriching our understanding of history in the most immersive way possible.

But wait, there's more! Our Grade 5 heroes have been burning the midnight oil, pouring their hearts and minds into the NAPLAN assessments. With grit and determination, we've tackled every challenge thrown our way, from reading and language conventions to writing and numeracy. Each assessment was an opportunity to shine.

As we bid farewell to Term 1 and eagerly await the adventures that await us in Term 2, let's carry forward the lessons learned, the friendships forged, and the memories made. Grade 5, you're unstoppable, and together, there's nothing we can't achieve!

Until next time, keep shining bright, Grade 5 stars!

Professional Learning Community 6 (Grade 6)

Well what a busy Term 1 it has been for our Grade 6 Students.  All up, this is what we have participated in already!!

  • 3 day camp to Melbourne
  • House Sports
  • Swimming Program
  • EBT Sign Ups and Trials
  • Lunchtime Cricket, Basketball and Dodgeball
  • Running Assemblies
  • Health Day

Some things we have already discussed in previous newsletters, however some things that have happened over the last two weeks are,

Grade 6 Health Day

On Friday 8th of March, all Year 6s participated in our Health Day.  This day was focussed around Personal Hygiene.  Students participated in a handwashing activity, realising very quickly how important proper handwashing techniques are to remove all the nasty bacteria that can be hiding.  Students also investigated cross contamination and just how far one touch can spread…  They then worked in groups to redesign a hygiene product to make it better or more useful.  Some excellent ideas and learning came out of this day, and we thank our PE Team for putting on this day for us

House Sports

Our Grade 6 students showed lots of Leadership throughout the day, not only taking charge of their own performances, but helping younger students to get the best out of their performances.  Our Grade 6 House Captains showed resilience and respect when participating, and kindness to others who also participated alongside them.  Congratulations to all award winners and to Green Moneghetti Dungalaba for being the winning house.  I also know we have a lot of Grade 6 Students participating at the Division Athletics on Monday 25th of March, best of luck to you all in your chosen events!

Grade 6 Swimming

On Thursday 14th and Friday 15th of March, all Grade 6 students participated in the swimming program at Shane Reece Swimming.  Students demonstrated multiple aspects of water safety, such as a clothed swim and rescue techniques.  They also completed theory work on why water safety is important.  Congratulations to all students who participated!

We hope that you enjoy the photos provided of the above activities.  Finally, we wish you all the best for the rest of Term 1 and the upcoming school holidays.  We look forward to seeing you back in the classroom for the start of Term 2
