Swimming, Diving and Team Sports

Fantastic finale

What a finale we have had to the end of Term One in Physical Education (PE), with the Northwestern Associated Schools’ (NWAS) Carnivals, the incredible win in the ACC Swim Team D-Division Carnival at HBF Stadium, and our inaugural St George’s Diving Team competing in the School Sport WA (SSWA) diving competition.

On 19 and 20 March, our Year 7-10 students travelled to Warwick Stadium for Girls Basketball, Boys Basketball and Volleyball competitions. They also played fixtures against the other NWAS Schools in Cricket and Ultimate Frisbee Carnivals at Britannia Reserve in Leederville. Throughout the carnivals sport was played in the right spirit with some exceptional skills on display. Term Two’s Winter Sport Carnivals will take place on 18 and 19 of June and the sports will be Girls Soccer and Boys Soccer, Badminton, Touch Rugby, Netball and Mixed Netball.

ACC Three-point Triumph

St George’s had a thrilling win in the ACC D-Division Swimming Carnival where we won by three points. It was so close with Emmanueal Catholic College that every race was crucial, and our team did us proud handling the pressure and swimming with heart and soul in every race.

Diving into Diving!

We have launched Interschool diving this year - as a new initiative led by Miss Yoxall. Our teams competed across all year groups and had an epic day, learning new skills and pushing themselves beyond what they thought they were capable of.

We came second overall and Emily Everett took the win for the Senior Division (11s and 12s).  Congratulations Emily.

What's ahead

The PE Department is preparing for Term Two with the Interhouse Cross Country in Week 3 (2 May) so we encourage all students to use the holidays to keep themselves fit and to get running! This will be a whole-school event held at Kings Park.  ACC Cross Country is on 30 May at Alderbury Reserve, Floreat. Runners will need to prepare for 3-4km distance. St George’s City to Surf Team to follow in August.  Morning running training is offered through our Co-Curricular Program, 7am every Monday and Wednesday, meet in the Fitness Centre.  We hope to see lots of our students there as it’s a great way to begin the day here in the heart of the City.

Happy Easter everyone.
