Beyond St George's
Exchange Program
After four weeks living as a St George's students, our three Year 10 exchange students from Cathedral College Wangaratta in Victoria - Amelie, Charlotte and Sophia - are heading home at Easter. We wish them all the very best and thank them for embarking on an adventure to WA. This morning the students presented a talk to all of our of Year 9s, encouraging them to apply for the Beyond St George’s Exchange Program next year. A short time ago, The Dragon chatted to Amelie (pictured above with her host Tahala) about some of her highlights. .
The Dragon: What has been the highlight of your first-ever visit to Perth? Amelie: I've enjoyed exploring the city and spending time with my host family after school and on the weekends. Going to Rottnest Island as a group was a big highlight.
How has the exchange experience enhanced your education? The curriculum whilst on my exchange has been very different to that at school back in Wangaratta, and I have enjoyed some of the different opportunities such as rock-climbing as part of Outdoor Education.
What are the main differences and similarities between St George's and Cathedral? Cathedral starts at a later time and finishes earlier, and St George’s is a high-rise building while Cathedral is a spread-out campus. They both have great music and sport opportunities.
Has this experience ignited a travel bug or an ambition for the future? Yes, the exchange has ignited an ambition to travel more in the future next time hopefully with friends.
What are you looking forward to about hosting Tahala at your home later in the year. I'll be showing Tahala all the differences between Perth and Wangaratta - and making her feel welcome just as she did for me. We might even go skiing if we have snow.
