From Marie

TERM 1

As we approach the end of the school term I want to let the community know that sadly Elizabeth Iacona (Grade 3/4E) is taking leave to follow her husband to Sydney for his work. Elizabeth is very hopeful of a return sometime in the future, however, it will not be this year.  We wish her and Adam all the best as they embark on their new adventures.  We are currently recruiting for this position and will let the community know the outcome when the position is filled.

Farewell to School Councillors

On Monday night, at the Annual General Meeting of School Council, we thanked members who have finished their term of office.  We thanked parents, Marilyn Tsirigotis (retiring Vice President), Priscilla Hetherton, Chantelle Schultz (retiring Treasurer), Lisa Beasley (retiring President) and teaching staff member Narelle Sencek for their contributions to the governance of the school.  In the six years I have been at Mullum Primary School, Lisa has been a Committee member, the Treasurer and then President of School Council. Thank you Lisa for the years of dedication to our school, it has been very much appreciated.

Kids on Parade

What a wonderful performance from our Grade 1 & 2 students on Tuesday afternoon.  A huge, appreciative audience of parents, grandparents, siblings and students enjoyed instrumental and vocal entertainment.  Bucket drumming, ukelele playing, singing and even a little dance routine, ensured everyone had a great time.

Lost Property

At the Kids on Parade performance on Tuesday a parent left their drinkbottle at the hall, when they returned to collect it, it had been picked up by one of our students.  We are hoping that if a parent has spotted this at home, wondering where it came from, please return to the office with no questions asked.  It is fairly distinctive:

Harmony Day tomorrow -

This is just a reminder that tomorrow is Harmony Day at Mullum Primary School. Students are encouraged to wear cultural clothing or a come with some (or a lot) of orange to help celebrate the theme that "Everybody Belongs".  As part of our celebrations there will be a whole school picnic where students are encouraged to pack themselves a picnic of culturally appropriate foods that they will eat themselves at the whole school picnic on the oval.  An assembly at 2:30 will be held to finish off the day of celebration. Families are welcome to attend this assembly.  Please note there will not be a morning assembly on that morning.

School Community Club

Over the last two weeks, Downball Australia have met with parent bodies, Parents' Association, School Council and Fathering Project, to talk about the new community based program commencing on Mondays after school, in Term 2.  We have given more detail in the designated page in the newsletter, however, if you have any questions please contact the office and we can chat with you about the program and ways you can get involved.  We are inviting all families to a Come and Try session on Monday 22 April, culminating in a parent play off and family BBQ.  We hope you can make it down to the basketball courts to join in the fun.

Smile Squad

The Smile Squad team from EACH are coming to our school from 17th June 2024, for two weeks.  Smile Squad is the Victorian Government free school dental program.  This means all students can get a free dental check-up, preventive services, and treatment at school.  Last year we had over 100 students treated at school.
