Primary Life

Athletics Day

Ingrid Briggs - Primary Sport Coordinator & PE Teacher

With joyful faces, spray painted hair and colourful T-shirts, our Primary students have enjoyed actively participating in our recent House Athletics Carnivals.

Our Year 3 – 6 students descended on Tom Kelly Track full of excitement and determination, and perfect weather allowed a full day of competition. All students competed in a range of athletic events, striving for their best and proudly representing their College Houses. Congratulations to our enthusiastic House captains, who wrote, choreographed and led their cohorts in some incredible chants!

On Tuesday, it was our Junior Primary students' turn to shine as they jumped, hopped and sprinted their way through a fantastic morning of competition, finishing with a celebration-picnic on the newly refurbished Top Oval. It was such a festive atmosphere and a wonderful opportunity to gather as a wider community while watching our youngest students demonstrate the skills they have practised and developed during their PE classes this term.

These carnivals not only provide the opportunity for students to develop skills in teamwork, resilience and sportsmanship, but serve as a reminder of the special and unique way God has made each of us. What an incredible privilege to have witnessed such growth in confidence, skills, and participation of our students, but even more impressively, to see the 'Donvale Difference’ in action in the way they have encouraged, cheered and supported their friends.

Thank you to our staff, parent volunteers, secondary students and the FOD team for supporting these special events. What an exciting term it has been!

Year 6 Acts of Service

AnnMarie Lok - Year 6 Teacher

On Tuesday, Year 6 had a special afternoon of community service as we prepared ourselves for Easter. As Jesus demonstrated the ultimate act of kindness, we wanted to encourage our students to follow in His footsteps by serving others.

During this special afternoon, students had the opportunity to sign up for one of five different activities. These activities include tutoring the Grade 2s, helping the horticultural and grounds staff, washing cars, creating gift packs for the DCC staff who go unnoticed and cleaning up the local Mullum Mullum trail.

The desire for each of these activities was to make a positive impact on the community and provide our students with a meaningful experience. It was a fantastic afternoon where the cohort used their passions and talents to give back to the community God has placed us in!

Spotlight on Specialist (Enviro)

Matt Perry - Primary Specialist Teacher

The students in Enviro have had a fantastic start to the year. This term, we have been very busy caring for the beautiful plants and animals that God has blessed us with here at DCC.

Some of the responsibilities that students have undertaken have included: weeding the veggie garden up at the farm, chopping up fresh vegetables for our resident rabbits and guinea pigs, and ensuring the animal enclosures are clean and topped up with fresh straw.

The Enviro program also gives students an opportunity to develop their social skills, and it has been wonderful seeing them work collaboratively to solve problems together.

Well done, Enviro students!
